Through flame and fire...a repair.

The body was refinished by a friend.
I did all the repairs to the burned areas of the bass which weren't as bad as it looked in the long run. Here is a glimpse of what's going on. It's my own signature series,lol. -Luke

I'm curious..does the heat from that fire change the wood at all..(on the bass).or the tone or anything?

I have no idea about the tone.

I know that heat and fire will change the wood at a chemical level. Fire is the rapid oxidation of material... so the wood is changing. For example, If you take a log and put it in your fireplace, fire begins to transform the the log from wood to ash. This takes a while. How wood sounds after being exposed to heat and fire for only a short time? I have no idea. I would imagine that the poly clear coat over the wood would offer some protection (obviously the instrument case protected it as well) but not much.

Consider that the wood is probably dessicated (dryed out) now as well. From a tone standpoint, I have no idea how this will effect the tone.

I gave it a test run and it sounds as great as it ever has. This bass is my primary bass, so you can imagine how much I've missed this guy! -Luke

my NT grind wasnt so lucky. the met its match when it hit the floor.

arent the cirrus series US made? my vietnamese peavey couldnt hack it.

For now, I'm using the original stock tuners that were in the fire, until after the holiday's when I can afford to upgrade. They actually cleaned up very well and are 100% operable! Some of the gold finish was rubbed off but they look pretty darn good considering. I'm very surprised at the outcome. I will post pictures late tonight or tomorrow morning at the latest. What a story! I'm so sorry all that happened to you!

As far as the bass goes, if I were you, I would definitely keep it. If nothing else, it's a testament to the resiliency you obviously have in you. Hope the restoration keep going smoothly and that the worst is behind you.
