Thumb Multi-FX?

Quick intro - this is my first post on here, and I'm looking for a bit of advice or guidance on setup, if any of you can help.

I've been playing for about 5-6 years; had a successful local band running for about a year and a half, and at the time it started I was still messing around with an old Peavey bass and a 50w 1980s guitar amp, so it was a bit of a rude awakening. Since then, I've upgraded a little bit, but I'm looking to pick up some effects.

I'm currently running a late '90s Warwick Thumb Bass 5-String bolt-on/ Ibanez Ergodyne EDA900, through a 300w Behringer Ultrabass BX3000T amp, into a BA115 600w cab.

I'm on a low budget at the moment, and I've been considering getting a multi-effects unit to cover all bases ('scuse the pun), but a lot of the low-end models seem to get poor reviews for sound quality, for obvious reasons. Any ideas?
