I received my NR in pehlam blue Thursday. I haven't had a whole lot of time with it but I can give you the first impressions.
First off, it is way different than my T-bird. The neck is much thicker, wider and has a wider nut (not sure the of the measurements). It is also heavier. I will have to move the strap button to the neck heel like my regular T-bird cause it tends to neck dive a little bit.
For the sound. It (NR) actually sounds different than the T-bird. They are suppose to have the same p/u's but the NR is hotter, beefier and more aggressive. Maybe due to the thickness of the neck and single slab of wood for the body.
The quality is superb. Excellent craftsmanship, I can't find anything wrong.
Overall, I am very pleased with this bass. Gibson did another excellent job. After I move the strap button I think it will be a very fun bass to play.
I will try to get some pics up soon. I'll fill you all in more after playing it on the gig.

how does it sound with just a volume, on/off switch and tone? do you have more tone options compared to say a blackbird which is just an on/off switch and the original volume,volume tone.

Awesome! Any thoughts or closeup pics you have to share of both of these retro fits would be sincerly appreciated - Its an often asked question here, especially the dimensions of the tuners.

I don't notice any difference, since for me it's always 0 or 10 when it comes to volume. I left the tone in case I need to change the sound of a particular bass line. That's not something you can do with the Blackbird. That's the advantage of having the tone button.
Reason i asked is cause i converted my goth thunderbird to have only a kill switch (on/off) just like the black bird. i have more output than before, but was fiddling around with the idea of reinstalling the neck volume as master volume and the tone control pots. But thanks.
