out of all, i'd play the 70's bird, the post 88 and the RD mostly :D

I'm finding something really annoying here and am not sure if it's truss rod adjustment or bridge or what. I like low string action, but even when it's not so low, I get this sort of clacking sound on the first five frets or so on the E string. No fret buzz whatsoever, just that clacking sound if I keep playing 8th notes or something. Any ideas?

RD's are really cool, but one thing I would not call them is "slimmed down" they are heavy basses, my Birds are easily under 10lbs even with all the their chrome on them, RD's are 2-3lbs heavier due to thicker body and Maple construction - I still think they're very cool, the one in the pic is stunning!

Wow. Yeah, my lefty Thunderbird is about 8.5 lbs. Still has that "new car smell", too. :) Is that the mahogany or just that it's new?

They're maple and the bodies are larger and thicker than a Thunderbird. The original RD was going to be John Entwistle's signature bass. Gibson sent him the prototype and he didn't like it, weight being one of the reasons. That's when it became the RD.

Indeed they are. I've played the krist signature, and it does weigh quite a lot. But i love having weight compared to none. Is great bass to play, good tones. RDs are, if i do say so myself, a thunderbirds distant cousin.

i was more referring to the size/shape of the body than the weight. i've never even seen an RD in person. the bodies always look slimmer than a typical t-bird to me.
