So true! No one wanted them. But when I plugged my first one in I knew I was home.

Played an Epi Tbird Pro-4 at GC...everything a slapping rock goon could want in a bass. Multilayer neck thru reverse AND modern bridge so it slaps! Hard to beat for 399...but I'll just have to enjoy the SUB SB4 I just got until GAS and fundage meet.

Hey guys. Hope you don't mind me asking: got a chance to pick up a natural (I guess. Not a burst but brown) 1998 Gibson Thunderbird with OHSC for $900 at my local guitar shop. He's hot 1199 on the tag but that's nuts (I think). He said since I'm a regular he'll do $900. It's worn, well played, nicks, scrapes, etc. Nothing dramatic or unexpected for a regularly played 15 year old bass.

Is that a fair price? Anything to look out for on a 1998? Anything I should know or check out?

Thanks in advance. Loved the bass not sure it's the right deal. (And I know "is it worth it to you?" Not what I'm looking for. Just want to know the questions above.

I'd say that's a fair price. If you look around the various sites, they're usually asking $1000. or a little more. If you like the way it plays and sounds.......

He's within $50 of what you were willing to pay... if you have to have it, what's an extra $50?

New strings, $30. Fitted hard-shell case, $150.

Not that far from what you can get a 2013 for if you think about it though.

That being said, it's rare to see a Gibson Tbird under $800.

I got mine new thru AMS for 899 just before Xmas. That was a pretty good deal. Brand new 2013 model.
