2 conductor is all you need for passive pickups but 3 will work. 3 is a stereo jack, it's used for active pickups. The third contact is the battery switch. For passive ignore the third lug.

You can use the stock Epi jack, it will just stick out 1/8" more from the Tele cup.

okay thx. i doubt it'll change anything tone wise to my bass. what about a new tone pot, what can i use to make the tone pop out more?

Bad pun time Andy.........

It was a cheap trick.
Iwas on the office supply aisle at the drug store and spied a roll of checkerboard duct tape, I took the PG off the bass and trimmed the tape edges so the squares lined up - about 15 min. total time.

Okay so besides possibly replacing the output jack with a 2 conductor switch craft 1/4 jack to fit in my telecaster jack plate. I'm also having the idea of: changing the tone pot to something better to make the tone pop more and make it noticeable when i roll it off/on OR using a stacked control for each pickup: Having individual volume AND tone control I'll either block the middle hole or use the bottom hole for a switch between pups.

Also, i've decided not only to electronically modify my bird but also, i'm going to do a crescendo of studs on it for binding. Surface or sides? What seems better choice for it?

I'm in the process of modding my white LE Epi IV (I'll post pix when it's done), and I have this black pickguard off an Epi pro on the way. Anyone know if the logo is engraved or just printed on?

I love the thunderbird, but I'm a new bass player looking for my first bass to buy. So I wanted to ask a question...I really love the feel of the thunderbird. It's ^^^in my price range. People have told me, it's not a good beginner bass, it's to much hassle to buy an expensive case. And it's not a good shape for a beginner to start out on...so I thought I'd come here and ask what you guys thought.

Welcome Bass Drummer First off you must understand we’re all Thunderbird Addicts over here! That said if you’re just starting out my first though is to tell you to get a Jazz Bass, I looked at a Squire Classic Vibe the other day that was under $400 that seemed very well built but if you tried a Tbird and liked it and you can find a shop that has both in stock I’d A B ‘em try one & then the other, some people don’t care for the feel of the Tbird so you really need to try one sitting down & standing up & see if the neck diving puts you off it never bothered me at all & I came to the Thunderbird by way many other basses and I didn’t find the shape or feel of a Thunderbird that odd, if you watch Tbird1958 youtube clips rocking out w/ his Tbirds (in high heels no less) Mark doesn’t seem uncomfortable also note he has the strap button on the back of the Bass behind the neck which makes it hang better, if you get a bolt-on neck Epiphone Tbird that may be a problem maybe someone else here can comment on that,

No offense to most of you bassists. But I hate fender squier, their guitars aren't shaped the way I like, the neck doesn't feel as slippery as I'd like, but the tones don't seem bad, I don't like the looks at all. But I'm not bashing them, this is just my opinion (don't eat me) I have tried most of the fenders and am now choosing between a Spector legend classic, epiphone SG, and thunderbird. My price range is below $600 including a case. I live ^^^in australia but can easily buy a thunderbird for under $400.

Is the thunderbird customizable? If so what can I change?
