Thunderbird Club Pt III

Ive always been a Fender type of guy but recently I got an Epi T bird in a trade for a Squier P bass. It`s just the standard made in China model which retails here for £200. I took it down to a rehersal after doing the usual "move the strap button" mod and plugged it into an Ashdown head/Ampeg 8x10 and WOW! The output from the bass is amazing! The guitarist, a man with a collection of vintage guitars, was well impressed.
I must say that I find the body shape a tad uncomfortable as I play fingerstyle with my thumb on the neck pickup and due to the shape of the body, my hand doesn`t seem to rest on the body but I will practice with different hand positions and will gaffa tape a thumb rest between the 2 pickups and experiment.

Now my next question: there are some new Epi Tbirds coming out with Gibson pickups fitted. Have any of you guys played one? Is it worth waiting for one of these to come out? Would I be better off buying a T bird Pro? I`m not unhappy with the way my T bird sounds, I would just like to move up the food chain a little in the near future.

Love the Oldsmobile! My grandparents had an Oldsmobile dealership in Colville,Wa. where I was born in '58. That brings back some memories, it's beautifully kept!

At first glance it might look like that but both Mike and Jeff really care about the instruments - There's 5 JA t-4's in the pic, $26,500.00 worth, they were very carefully placed :)

Thanks, Mark! I sure enjoy it, although it's laid up at the moment in need of some brake repair. The color is Burgundy Mist--Fender got their custom color from the '59 Olds palette. You probably saw a few of these as used cars at your grandparent's dealership when you were a kid--I'm jealous!

Not trying to derail the thread, but do you still have your Camaro, and also what year was your Caddy?

Ahhh....The Camaro, it was originally my mom's car then mine, belongs to our singer now, ground up restoration, it's a beauty.

Killer!! I dig '69 Caddies--they had great tail lights. Much cooler than the almost identical '70s. And yours was a coupe in an awesome color. You must miss it (but not the gas mileage). I pretty much love any giant old car, especially if it has fins, hence my name!:D

Okay, sorry, enough car talk--this thread is about Thunderbirds!

Here, this'll help, it's an early shot, the black Nikki Sixx is gone as is the Natural to the right of center. The '76 to the left became Purple. Things have changed :)

Yeah, it's really a fave of mine too, the paint job was really $$$ and I did consider that but if I recall '76s are supposed to be all black - Except for the rare White ones.

I honestly don't know! From the significance standpoint it would probably be the Lull since it's his first production 'Bird, but several of the others are certainly the equal to, or more important from the sentimental view. I've always really liked 76 Gibsons so I'm pretty shy on parting with any of my three. It's kind of like that saying "my favorite is the one I'm playing now" :bassist:

Hey, I just heard that Gibson showed a new "Epiphone Thunderbird Classic" here in Germany at the Musikmesse Frankfurt. From what I have heard Gibson has lost interest in building the Tbird under the Gibson brand because it doesn't pay off for them - they can make more money with building Les Pauls in that time.

So, the new Epiphone Thunderbird classic is a neck-trough and also has the original Thunderbird USA pickups! Here's a photo from Musikmesse: Link Removed

Nice chrome hardware, and it comes in vintage sunburst and white!

I've found it in some german online shops, but not on the Gibson/Epiphone website. The price could be $499 from what I've been seeing.

I wouldn't have put chrome since they have the black pickups. But they look So goddamn amazing. Now i'm actually starting to regret having bought my thunderbird goth. Oh well maybe when money comes in later i'll acquire one in white. But for now, the goth is my baby!!!

Okay so i need to know what pots should i acquire to instal in my goth to get more tonality range into it. I may be going for a stacked volume/tone pots (x2) and a switch between pickups. i'm super :hyper: to complete the whole design and project i've been drawing the tbird for months changing every little detail to it to make it mine!!!
