Hi Jaymi,

Love it! Really it looks quite beatiful and obviuosly there was great care in it's build - I really like the matching headstock too. Whjat can you tells about it? Is it a prototype for more to come? And the parts, bridge, pups and rings? Awesome :hyper:

This is the prototype. I had some parts lying around so it would come together quickly. The bridge and tailpiece are Bach, the pickups are Thunderbucker '66 models as are the rings. The neck is a 1.5" nut width so it plays like a jazz...CTS pots and reverse tuners...Built by Bluesman Vintage...There are more coming and this bass will be at the Dallas Guitar Show this next week at his booth. The color is Pelham Blue and the body is mahogany. He put neck inserts in and it makes a world of difference in sustain as well as tone overall. It is going to have a little more relic treatment to it and then we are off to the races. I need to add the string tree but I have not had a T bird that sustains like this one thus far.

We're very fortunate to have a photog so dedicated as Miss Peacock travel with us and tirelessly shoot the band during shows. Me with a couple of my Thunderbirds ( White Burny, Red Gibson Nikki Sixx Mk.II) at a recent show :smug:

Those rare white ones is what turned me on to Thunderbirds.

My mom went to alot of the early Motley Crue shows in '81. She had a few low quality live photos packed in the garage. One of which was Nikki Sixx in pinkish thigh high boots with an alpine white 'bird in hand. (Totally ripping off Pete Overend's look.) The odd shape of a Thunderbird drove me nuts. However, being somewhat new to playing bass, I figured if I were to ever acquire a Thunderbird, people thought I'd be ripping off Nikki's style. Then, I saw a Hanoi Rocks music vid. That was sort of my "Okay, not just Sixx plays Tbirds. I'm in the clear."

I don't know if this was the original color or a refin.

It's a Jaydee Thunderbird. I was told by the guy that I bought it from that it originally belonged to someone in Traffic, but have nothing to support it. It's one of a handful of T/birds that John has made through the years. The same guy told me that he thought this one was made around 1979, but it has no serial number so I can't use that to date it. Like most Jaydee basses, it's actually a set neck. It's active (3-band EQ), has MOP bird inlays in the fretboard, brass hardware, ebony scratchplate.

Wow, that's really cool - a unique beautiful instrument, I had no idea Jaydee ever made any 'Birds at all. Shall I add you our roster?
