I had an Epi Thudnerbird a few years ago. It was a great bass. that I gigged pretty often. I think it had a "glitch" in the neck pickup or pot that made it sound pretty crunchy when cranked up all the way. I haven't heard another Epibird sound that way.

Surfing Craigslist, I found a guy who had an Artia EB-3 copy for trade. The bass is a lawsuit bass made in Japan in 1974. I traded the Tbird for it. The EB-3 sounds fantastic and is one of my favorite basses. Although I'm a finger style player, the EB-3 begs to played with a pick.

I missed my Tbird though. So, after a failed experiment with a MIM fretless jazz I decided to trade it for an Epi Tbird. (Nothing wrong with fretless, I just didn't enjoy playing it very much. It sat in the case.)

I'm so glad to have a Tbird back in my stable. The one I have now is in much better shape and sounds great. I played it last night for a few hours and I'll be giving it a good set up today. I'll probably put rotosounds on her, although I've toyed with idea of putting flats on it. I'm going to apply some steel wool to the neck to make it a little less sticky, clean the fretboard, and give it a good general tune up.

I wanted to mod the last bass, TBird1958 and I discussed it in the past. More than likely, this bass is a keeper and I'll be modding it in the future to give it a more classic look.

Welcome back to the stable Epi. I did the same thing. Had an Epi T-bird a few years back and traded it for something else. A year or two later I went back out and bought another Epi T-bird because I missed her so much. What a great bass for $300 or less. In many ways I prefer my Epi T-bird over my Gibson.

Although i would absoultly love to post a pic of me and my bass, i have no camera... idk ill try to find a way. i WILL find a way. so anyone know what makes limited edition custom shop special? i found one on ebay, same condition as mine that sold for 380. i paid 280 for mine. Profir? i think not, as this bass is too good to sell in my opinion.

It's a limited edition because of the color, the black is not standard finish, otherwise it has the same components as a stock one.

I can confirm that the JayDee Thunderbird was made in 1979. It was made for a bass player called Dennis Morgan who was good friends with Stevie Winwood.

Carlo's JAEbirds are great basses. I put a pair of Thunderbucker Ranch '66 pups in mine (JAEbird #4) and took it to a recording session last weekend.

Thanks. one question I have is who all has tried DR strings on there Bird and what did they think of them? I've been using High Beams and Black Beauties on all mine or am in the process of switching them over and was just kinda curious if there was a preference in strings.

Sure I use Lo Riders. Love them. Thought about flats for a moment but there is something about steel that I love.
