Sure I use Lo Riders. Love them. Thought about flats for a moment but there is something about steel that I love.

IMHO T-birds already have that warm mellow sound and flatwounds, for me, would kind of muddy it up. Does anyone understand what I am saying? It's a personal choice as always...I am using rotosound's RS 66LO stainless steel roundwounds as the first strings that I put on my T-bird. There are others that I want to try but I'm unemployed and on a budget so changing strings on a whim is out of the question for me.

Thanks. one question I have is who all has tried DR strings on there Bird and what did they think of them? I've been using High Beams and Black Beauties on all mine or am in the process of switching them over and was just kinda curious if there was a preference in strings.

I use Black Beauties on my Gibson and have High Beams on my Epi. I love them on the Birds and most of my other basses as well. I do have Ernie Ball Super Slinky on one of my Epi's and like those as well. I like a brighter sound on my basses and DR's seem to give me the sound I like the most.

It came with a nice Gibson hardshell case - I traded a franken Fender with an SKB case, a Peavey 115BX cab, and an IMP2 for it... I think I came out OK on the deal, hahaha!!!

I can confirm that the JayDee Thunderbird was made in 1979. It was made for a bass player called Dennis Morgan who was good friends with Stevie Winwood.

Thanks Jake, That's the name (Dennis Morgan) engraved on the Eagle tailpiece.

i got my JAEbird today, this thing is amazing, it sounds as great as it looks, now my epi goth has mate!! will post pics soon, gigs shots coming too!!

it was, got my JAEbird on its one year birthday and traded for my 5er the next day, two birds in one weekend...the only kind of hunting this guys cares to do!!

The reverse is a '76 natural with a hipshot bridge.

Non-reverse was built by Marko Ursin in Finland, his nick here is MPU. The pickups were built by Rami Hakala of Mikkihouse OY into the NOS '76 covers and rings. The color is inverness green (the pic doesn't do it justice) and the bridge and tuners by Schaller. If I had to choose the Gibson would go but thankfully I don't have to.

In previous forums and others, thunderbird owners like the epiphone form fit thunderbird case over the gibson one. As far as gig bags, i have no clue. Even i'm looking for one cause I currently use my acoustic GUITAR gigbag to carry my thunderbird around to practice or repairs. and it sucks cause the headstock sticks out luckly i pad the hell out of it.

Very proud of my 8 year old niece. She had to write a paper about a family member. She chose me and a good portion of her report was about my "Thunder bird base". She even drew a picture of me and my 'bird.
