Thunderbird Club

And Walter Becker of Steely Dan playing a 1965 Gibson Thunderbird bass.

I bought my VP from a GC store in Syracuse, so it travelled right across the continent you truck. It was fairly well packed in a cardboard box. They tuned it down 1/2 step. No problem!
I've received a couple basses from individuals where the strings were loose as well. I don't think it causes a problem, I just don't think it fixes one either. Manufacturers don't do it as far as I know of, but maybe some do ship them out like that to stores like that. I'd much rather it be packed well. I've received a bass or two where the packing was the far bigger concern. When I sell a bass I pack it like I would want it, and I mention that it will be in tune so if they want it otherwise to let me know and I'll do what they want.

I look at a lot of non-TBird type basses.
Even play one. Money providing, I’d have a crazy assortment.

Oh, I’d also would absolutely have to have an ThunderBird IV.

Something like this would suit me just fine.

I think that's the bass that I wanted but it was in the sellers personal collection. Geddy ended up with it. I'm sure I would not have offered to pay what he did. My white '76 came from the same seller.

No, I had some stuff on backorder from Sweetwater, for 6? 7? months, being held up at this point by one item, apparently :meh:
I switched out that one item for something else (the pf350) that was in stock, and suddenly it all got shipped :jawdrop: :bored:

So kind of a late xmas for me, I guess :D

And yes, the Peavey does sound awesome
But it sucks down a lot of juice - the maual says 800w :wideyed: compared to 100w for the pf350 & 63w for the Max 250 combo.......

Perhaps someone can 'splain to me how a head that delivers 350 watts draws only 100 watts. Plutonium power amp? Uranium output transformers?

Ha, I saw that but it's wee bit out of my price range. There's one on eBay that the seller is offering a discount on, which is in my price range, but would love to play one first. Thanks, though! :)

Well, we may be having a small GTG at my home just south of Seattle around the end of April, I have some Thunderbirds, among them, an '89 with Lull pickups and an '06 Studio with stock Gibson TB Plus.
We'll just make some noise for awhile and then head to Cafe 909 for drinks and food, let me know.

Hey so the Thunderbuckers are way thinner top to bottom than the stock pickups that came out of my (2011) Thunderbird. Those of you who replaced the pickups, what did you do? Glue a shim in there? I tried some foam, but they're still really low to the body. The screws that came with the pickups are also really short, so I used longer Jazz Bass pickups screws. So maybe I need to add a chunk of wood to the pickup cavity? (And why does it say BAT4 in the bridge cavity?)

I made some shims from Mahogany and have used dense foam to do this, longer screws with springs from a pen help as well.

BAT4 stands for Biological Agent Test #4. Your bass may be covered in a dangerous, weaponized infectious agent. Carefully package it up and send it to me; I will see to safe disposal.

How thick did you make the shims and did you glue them in or just use rally long screws that went through the shim into the base of the cavity?
