Thunderbird Club

How thick did you make the shims and did you glue them in or just use rally long screws that went through the shim into the base of the cavity?

I glued the wood shims in first ( Can't remember now, I think it was 1/4" Maho) so I could mark the hole locations, when I did foam I didn't glue it, it was pretty dense - actually the easier way, but again you'll need longer screws.

Butterfly Boucher is her name and she's an excellent musician all the way around. That band, Elle Macho, has 2 records from the early 2010s and that was it. Butterfly has a 3-4 solo records and has been a gun for hire with Sarah Maclachlan and Sara Bareilles, so she's keeping pretty great company. Her voice is pristine and her bass playing is just *insert stankface here*.

This band and her singing and playing ring all of my musical bells. Last time I was this excited about a band was with MUSE around 2003-4. Though Elle Macho doesn't appear to be playing much, if at all, and Butterfly's social media presence (and website) are a few years out of date.

All that to say, check out those videos of Elle Macho and Butterfly in the studio, as well as the grainy club clips of them on YouTube. She's great and her T-Bird sounds incredible and has me sold on one, whenever I can get one to try out.

Butterfly Boucher? I know of that name - Aussie?

I've received a couple basses from individuals where the strings were loose as well. I don't think it causes a problem, I just don't think it fixes one either. Manufacturers don't do it as far as I know of, but maybe some do ship them out like that to stores like that. I'd much rather it be packed well. I've received a bass or two where the packing was the far bigger concern. When I sell a bass I pack it like I would want it, and I mention that it will be in tune so if they want it otherwise to let me know and I'll do what they want.

So is there any benefit in loosening strings on a bass that may it be played for a while? Or best to leave it in proper tune tension?

Better than Moby Dick...
Speaking of Moby, who's the great-great-great nephew of Herman Melville.

I can't figure out why this would be needed at all, seems like if only point of attachment is the lower bout the bass would tip forward every time she let go of it - Or did I miss something. Regardless, nice playing and tone there, cool band too.

Maybe that's what the tape on the rear strap button was for? To keep it from tipping?

SMUD will appreciate that.

As long as I don't play between 4p & 9p! Or whatever the hours are this week :meh:

Hey so the Thunderbuckers are way thinner top to bottom than the stock pickups that came out of my (2011) Thunderbird. Those of you who replaced the pickups, what did you do? Glue a shim in there? I tried some foam, but they're still really low to the body. The screws that came with the pickups are also really short, so I used longer Jazz Bass pickups screws. So maybe I need to add a chunk of wood to the pickup cavity? (And why does it say BAT4 in the bridge cavity?)

On mine, I used iirc 3/8" foam underneath, and just doubled up on it. I got the screws from Philadelphia Luthiers when I got the covers & rings.....

I wonder how many times that one student got held back in school. He has a very advanced receding hairline for a high school kid.
He had a full head of hair when he was Opie, but now he is full on Gavin McLeod... ;)

Actually, one of my university friends started losing his hair in high school and by the time we finished undergrad, he was nearly at a full Dr. Phil. Rogaine slowed progress, but it was a losing battle.

Some 'birds took over my couch. Birds of a feather at least.

Add a fretless of some kind (maybe a Jazz with, say, T-Bird pickups) and I could probably do all my work with that flock.
What is the bridge on the NR Thunderbird?

Was wondering the same thing. Can’t say I’ve ever seen that type of bridge before, has some interesting design features, would like to hear more about it from @PhR75

My Dad had a receding hair line in his 20s. I had my mother's hairline. Operative word, had.
