Now, the real reason I'm posting is that I was gonna take the flats off the TB and put on some rounds to see how it sounded (I put the flats on it as soon as I got it home on Sunday).

As I removed the E string, I heard a "tink" and found this:

@Nocturnal question of your spector bird: what are the body specs, measurement wise? Curious to know how oversized i went with my torched thunderbird

Just checked my BaCH out and it does in fact have a belly cut (don’t know if it’s original though) and it’s difficult to tell for certain with the solid color finish but it looks like a three plank body. I don’t know much about the BaCH birds (years made, numbers made, features of different runs, materials of construction, original cost…). However, I do know I really like it, even with the stock pup (still looking for a good deal on a nice replacement pup though).

My skinny-bodied Bach NR had a belly cut. I was trying to find a good picture of it but no luck so far. This is the best I could do.

I'm surprisingly not that far off. My Torched t-bird build is 23.5" Corner-corner long sections, 10" middle section, & 18.25" shoulder to control corner. Thanks!

Those LP DC basses are nice and I have been tempted... But I do not have a short scale.

I am going for a bit of a different take on the classic bass line by playing the D an octave lower with some nice tubey drive. The DGCF Thunderbird has 105-45 RS66 so the strings are nicely floppy. That is currently a bonus. The BEAD bass also has relatively floppy strings. I think we are going to take a bit of an angrier/darker tone with the song.

A few fun things with Taxman - it is a Harrison song. He wrote it because he was taken aback by his tax bill. It is one of the few Beatle songs that name specific real people - Conservative and Labour Prime Ministers (Edward Heath and Harold Wilson respectively). But what I find most interesting is that it is a generally happy pop song about something that made him rather angry/bitter.

I got the LP DC because it feels very similar to my EBO, but I don't necessarily want to take my EBO out. It's far more versatile and the coil tap gives a surprisingly useful sound.

I didn't know Taxman was a George Harrison song. I guess it's pretty easy to sound happy when you've got the likes of John and Paul singing backups.

So I have given up on my NR TeleBird.

My reverse and explorer are superb.

and I have decided to recycle the neck into a TeleDC.

I haven’t decided what pickup to use but it will be a single. I may scrounge a pickup from one of my 21 NR’s after I make one of them a faux II.

I also like 7ender single coil Pbass pickups… may even go that route…

It has been giving you a hard time. Sorry about that. I hope it is done with the antics. It didn't like being ignored so long.

In part amusing that he was angry/bitter enough to write the song then a few years later finds that money is not the root of happiness.

But his money did allow him to buy the most expensive movie ticket ever. He financed Life of Brian because it was a movie that he thought that he would enjoy watching.
