You so need to do a Marty McFly in that room. Just get a few A/B splitters and plug into all 5 amps at the same time, power each one up, dime the volume on each amp and the bass and hit any note you want. :wideyed:

note: have some spare underwear handy, there could be minor side effects. :atoz:

Been working on this little project for Thunderbird Thursday, digitizing an old 70s t-shirt transfer...

Now, the real reason I'm posting is that I was gonna take the flats off the TB and put on some rounds to see how it sounded (I put the flats on it as soon as I got it home on Sunday).

As I removed the E string, I heard a "tink" and found this:

I guess I'll be upgrading the nut.

How do I upgrade the nut?

I would suggest Graph Tech if you want something better that looks stock, or axemasters? (I think) on eBay if you want brass....

Those LP DC basses are nice and I have been tempted... But I do not have a short scale.

I am going for a bit of a different take on the classic bass line by playing the D an octave lower with some nice tubey drive. The DGCF Thunderbird has 105-45 RS66 so the strings are nicely floppy. That is currently a bonus. The BEAD bass also has relatively floppy strings. I think we are going to take a bit of an angrier/darker tone with the song.

A few fun things with Taxman - it is a Harrison song. He wrote it because he was taken aback by his tax bill. It is one of the few Beatle songs that name specific real people - Conservative and Labour Prime Ministers (Edward Heath and Harold Wilson respectively). But what I find most interesting is that it is a generally happy pop song about something that made him rather angry/bitter.

Loosen strings, run a razor blade between nut and finger board, tap gently, and hope it wasn’t glued. Once out, clean the slot and get a new nut. Opinions on material will be all over the map. I went with Tusq XL because it was the exact size I needed and I’m cheap :D

super glue it and keep playing.

I have only replaced nuts when I can't find that piece.
