Thunderbird Club

Wasn't Uniroyal a subsidiary of Michelin? My parents had a set of the self-repairing Tiger Paws (?) and they were really nice. Even looked for a set once years ago and they were no more. At least here anyway.
Self repairing unless the puncture is in the sidewall which is common for low profile tires . When BMW deleted spare tires for weight relief they used the self repairing tires in the 6 series coupes. Saw many people constantly have to replace a tire.

Yeah, a sidewall issue is a done deal no matter what tire. As far as I know they never had one self repair, but they lasted really well and were comfortable tires.

@BklynKen and any other SIT followers: I was curious about the Foundations (nicely priced string), so I just asked. Unlike DR, someone actually took the time to acknowledge the email and reply. I like that. My question is below the reply. Thought I would post it in case it's of use or interest to others. The ad makes it sound like the Foundations are really bright, but apparently that's not the case. I find the mids on the SS to be well balanced, so I'm curious how that might be improved upon with the Foundations.

Hi Donnie,
Thanks for reaching out and very sorry for the delayed response.
The Foundations were designed with tonal balance and string flexibility in mind. They aim to sound less like an "angry piano" and more like a good old fashioned bass guitar. The Foundation Nickel variety is slightly brighter than our Power Wound series, and the Foundation Stainless will be slightly less bright than the Power Steels. The Foundations also have new core-to-wrap ratios resulting in a string that is also easier to bend. For what you're describing, we would personally recommend trying the regular Foundation Nickel variety ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) as they will give you the most balanced tone and feel suitable for just about any style!
Best regards,
The Stay In Tune String Co.

Message: Hello,
I've been using the Powersteels of late and have used the Powerwounds before
and enjoy both. I'm considering the Foundations, possibly in nickel as I'm
not looking for super bright or brighter than Rotos, for example. My
question is, how do the Foundations compare/contrast to the Powersteels? I
know they should be brighter, maybe even the nickel version, but do they have
more/less mids, more/less lowend, that kind of thing? My concern with the
Foundations is I'm not looking for something suited for slapping or that
angry piano bass sound.
Thanks for making great strings and any advice you can provide!

I am a Michelin advocate, track & road. (not straight-line long-milage/touring road) I know how to ride them and they've never let me... 'down'. ;)
They are great. Until they go off. Then they turn to rocks very suddenly. I like predictable when it comes to tires going off. Bridgestones were good that way for a while. I have had some good luck with Metzlers as well, although that was the round profile more than anything. Different motorcycles like different tires, kinda like different Thunderbirds like different strings.

They get through a whole lot of guitars in that video.

They are a guitar-driven band for sure but all three guitarists also play other instruments, which gives them a lot of sonic layers. Colin Greenwood mostly plays that white '70s P-bass. I really like his approach - a very tasty player and solidly locked with their drummer. One of my favorite bands.
