They are a guitar-driven band for sure but all three guitarists also play other instruments, which gives them a lot of sonic layers. Colin Greenwood mostly plays that white '70s P-bass. I really like his approach - a very tasty player and solidly locked with their drummer. One of my favorite bands.
jamón serrano?

Patanegra Ibérico a bellota…jamón serrano?![]()
They are great. Until they go off. Then they turn to rocks very suddenly. I like predictable when it comes to tires going off. Bridgestones were good that way for a while. I have had some good luck with Metzlers as well, although that was the round profile more than anything. Different motorcycles like different tires, kinda like different Thunderbirds like different strings.

Because some of us on here keep talking about how great Grecos are. We’re doing it to ourselves. Thanks guys, you’re completely destroying the Tbird “one trick pony myth” and the “neck diver myth”. If you keep on posting this nonsense everybody and their brother is gonna want a Tbird…stop it! Before you know it, all the used birds will double in value and I’ll never be able to afford another one.

All joking aside, just a couple of years ago you could get a nice used Greco bird for around $500 to $600. Then word got out about what great basses they are, now you see them frequently priced between $1200 and $1500. Go figure.
I was trying to be diplomatic. But yeah.I can never read that cat's posts.
A wall of rambling text on even the most basic questions.
So how was the show?
I’d be interested to know how you got to the Troubadour. I’m assuming you took the Amtrack bus from Bakersfield to Union Station. Did you wave from the bus when you where going up the grapevine and got to the Frazier Park exit? Did you Uber from the station or try public transportation?
I like taking the train up and down the Central Valley. I hear it’s pretty full most days now because of the gas prices. If you’re traveling solo, Amtrack is very reasonably priced.
), and then the train to Bakersfield.
Rich Corinthian leather.Thanks. The only car I truly miss. I'm afraid if I found another one I'd have to explain why I brought it home. It was so comfortable and plush inside.
There are trains that run Sacto to Stockton, or at least there were as of 2019, depending on the time. The show was great!
The Troubadour was packed, both last night & tonight sold out in a few hours.
I took the Amtrak bus from Sacramento to Stockton (why is there no train for that?!), and then the train to Bakersfield.
Then, another Amtrak bus to Burbank, and Uber to The Troubadour.
To paraphrase parts-store auto service manuals: the return was the reverse of that.
Got back about an hour & a half ago. Off to go for a nap, sleeping on trains & buses isn't exactly awesome.
But otherwise it was fine. Uber to & from The Troubadour cost as much as the round-trip Amtrak ride though![]()
Mine too. I got on board in the late 90's and the first album I bought on release was "Kid A", on a double 10" vinyl. I have the whole lot on vinyl and cd except "The Bends" which I have on cd only and "Pablo Honey" which I don't have at all (!). The singles have plenty of great tracks too, "The Bends" -era especially where one can compile an entire alternative album that don't sound like a B-sides collection ("Talk Show Host" for example).
My favourite albums vary but at times it's the difficult "Hail To The Thief". Yorke's "The Eraser" has also got plenty of playtime.

now that you’ve had time to explore your 64, I’d be curious (aside from the neck) to hear your thoughts on how a Greco stacks up to a first Gen Bird…Visited my HO train buddy on Saturday, his current project - '65 GTO

sounds like you want one too….Because some of us on here keep talking about how great Grecos are. We’re doing it to ourselves.

thanx…Rather well actually, esp at the price. To my ears the Greco and my Lull are closest to the original - except for the neck. The pickup on the Greco is so good, they really got it right, to my ear way better than a 760 and it creams an EY guitars badly, and more than gives the new Gibson a run for the money too. I just dime thing and play it, the one thing I did recently do was lower the pickup, it's just too damn hot and constantly overloaded the front end of the amp, what was good, got even better. Still one of the best basses I've ever owned at any price.
