Thunderbird Club

Have you got something similar with a through neck mahogany bird?
Clip 5 is me playing a Bach NR, neck pickup (maho body, rosewood/maple set neck). The rest are Jon Campagna playing a JAEbird, honduras maho body, bolt on maple neck...

...this is some guy playing a 2002 Gibson in drop D. Are those through necks?

He says, "Seems to add a lot more clarity overall." But what does he know?

I've seen that guy before, what does he know, doesn't even like the 3 point bridge. Seriously though, too many variables there, strings recording method, I think the only way I'll know what they sound like is to buy a pair, then I can compare to the Mojos directly and see which sound fit's me better as well as look better though I suspect the Mojos are going to lose out there with the Philly covers on them

Thank goodness you posted your TB vs CB sound clips earlier. If all I had seen was the YouTube clip of the 2002 Gibby running TBs I would have passed on them. That is exactly the sound I don't want!

I'm a back line finger player. Rarely do I desire to jump out in front of the mix and lead the song - think Fleetwood Mac McVey style (unfortunately without his talent), an occasional solo but 95% of the time just solid back line support.

I want massive but clear bottom end, a balanced not scooped or exaggerated mid and mild not harsh highs all in a high output pup that doesn't force me to max out my Birds volume knob while keeping the tone knob rolled down about half off . Your earlier clips sounded like they'd get me there, that guy's YouTube doesn't, might just be his string selection, tuning, tone adjustment or recording methods. Whatever it is I don't like it.

I know that this is the Thunderbird forum but I figured that you will all be kind and supportive of the "error of my (7ender) ways". And this is the list with the cool kids. So, wanted to share this here, as everyone has been showing off their new (and modified) birds. This MIM Jazz just came out and I needed an Xmas gift for someone special on my list (me). I am a sucker for the retro painted headstock. I have some aftermarket pups and bridge sitting around. I am going to install them once it arrives. I wish it had the pearl block inlays but it wasn't to be. And now back to our regularly scheduled "bumper barbs"!

That's very pretty, especially the headstock.

You know what would be cool? If the back of the neck and headstock was painted to match.

Innuendo aside, that's one thing I've never liked about Fender basses and that kind of bass. It's always seemed... I don't know... cheap, to me. I much prefer the painted necks on Rickenbackers and Gibsons.

Fender Japan did painted necks on their mid-late 80's P/J's. Pretty cool really…
