Thunderbird Club

Tubezilla delivers. Gains up, master vol low, this amp- and the cab- has got some serious "belly" going on. That SVT DNA in the power section does give itself away. I like playing through this rig.

I would be happy to swap you another set of 'em for 2021 Gibson or Lull or Thunderbucker pickups. Or anyone else for that matter. Then I might like the VP a lot more.
At the moment I've nothing to swap, I am going to leave the burgundy alone.

Mentioned b4, but for as long as I can recall, the bridge pup is much weaker than the neck. Turning it on with the neck pup, lowers the volume, doesn't improve the tone. Both pots are original IIRC, it's possible the bridge pot is shot. Since I'm perfectly happy with the neck pup's sound, IDGAS. Someday, maybe*, I'll have it looked at.

* prolly not

I wonder if it's shorted out, that doesn't sound right to me.

Is that like a descendent of the Sunn 300T? Didn't Fender take them over or something and make them again? Six 6550s really punch.

This amp is the Sunn 300-T rebranded. Fender had purchased Sunn and then produced the 300-T, later to be rebranded as the Fender Bassman 300 Pro. (Note: for the Sex Pistols reunion show Glen Matlock had a pair of these heads with Fender 810 cabs, Fender branded).
I forget his name, but the guy who designed Ampeg's SVT put a similar power section into this amp.
This one's been modded with KT-120s and an extra transformer. It's monster loud if you want it. I'd go find another 810 fridge loaded with Jensen 50w drivers, but I don't think anyone would let me load into their club at this point.

Filament transformer I assume? I opened for a band about 20 years ago who's bassist used the Sunn 300T's I think when they were first reissued. I think that would be Bill Hughes who designed the SVT's, he used to post here.

A tech could check that with a multimeter in about one minute, but I know, YDGAS.
Unfortunately, my tech is 45 miles away, is only there Tuesday-Saturday, noon to 6, and I'd have to leave the bass for ~2 weeks(they're good, thus busy). That's a large portion of the "someday...maybe".

This turned up on Facebook. Rex Brown posted it. In his post he said July 12th is getting close. Possible release date??
Just saw that, pretty cool really!
