While it's summer, a few of y'all should gtg and barbecue a watermelon. You get 3 or 4 couples, find a clearing in the woods. Put the 'melon on a spit above a nice wood fire. After a few minutes, the juices in the melon will boil causing the watermelon to explode. Then everyone runs into the forest for a piece.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, East TN & surrounding area was/is the same way.....

Trousers were the pants that Brits wore;

Slacks were the fancy-ish not-quite-dress pants that women wore to family reunions, weddings, other similar things;

Jeans were almost always Blue Jeans, even if a different color - just calling them "jeans" implied "the good pair" that men would wear to the same sort of things where women would wear slacks......

Huh. Here, jeans are everyday jeans. Good jeans get specified as such. Possibly the Texan tendency to shorten things to conserve effort - a throwback to wild west days and still common on 100+ degree days.
