Thunderbird Club

Funny thing about tubes. I have played through an SVT and an old Sunn. Both were pretty nice, and the Sunn was far better than the Ampeg to my ears. But, given the choice, I'll still play through sold state Acoustic Control equipment. There's tubes, and then there's tubes. Solid state is the same way. There's solid state and then there's solid state.
I loved my 370. And it was run into a Sunn cab like the one I have now... funny.

There will be a 370!!

Ok, I have to go now.

What's up with some Classic White finish!?
I mean, i know the CW is a little bit yellowish, but some CW looks almost like exactly yellow.
What happened? Did Gibson use some different paint or the color changed by the time? I mean maybe it was at a heavy smoker place or something like that.

Gibson's Classic White does yellow all by itself, I have an '89 that has aged that way. At first it bothered me (not that I could stop it) now I really like it.

Yeah, go ahead and crank up my GAS pains. I really want to replace the Chinabuckers in my 1991 with ThunderBuckers after hearing that comparison the first time. I might even put them in the 2001, which has some kind of pixie dust in it that makes me think twice about making changes. The difference is clear. Well, clarity, really. Repetition just makes the GAS pains worse. Or is that the point? :roflmao:

I would not change a thing in my 2001 Bird's electronic parts. Not unless something fries. I LOVE that bass and it just sounds different for whatever reason. I'm afraid I would screw up the Mojo that Bird has.

Got to spend some time with the new Bird today. Made some observations:

Besides plastic on PG, bass has original strings. No scratches on plastic

All the case candy is not only in the case, but factory sealed in the original bags

Case smells like patchily oil and cloves, has a few wall strike white stripes, but is in fantastic shape

Ladies and gentlemen, at this point I'm convinced I just bought a "used" Bird with fewer miles than most Guitar Center display basses

The gibson sized pups won't fit in an epi. Be it tb+, China crap, emg, ect. I had to use a dremmel to widen and round out the angles corners. Was easy and pretty quick, esp if your gna add trim rings. I still say China buckers sound like poopie live, even compared to TB+. Maybe it's just me but I found than to be just weak and lacking.

Could anyone tell me whether this yellowing effect is inevitable for white colors or does it vary
on finish being nitrocellulose lacquer versus a polyester gloss? I don't know jack about this stuff but was under the impression that nitrocellulose degrades more quickly and thus the yellowing.

I thought the whole undies discussion was great. No matter what crappy things are happening in the terrestrial workaday world, we can always count on a certain type of "normalcy", when we return to the TBird club thread. It is like slipping into a comfy sweater that feels like a John Waters film.

Exactly what I think of your avatar...but different strokes, etc.

I like it better with black or no pickguard. Not sure what the point of posting something with tort was right after I said I don't like tort, if not to get that exact reaction. It seriously looks to me like what my vomited up blood looked like. And Talkbass's seeming obsession with P-basses with tort and flats annoys the crap out of me.

My avatar is the cover of the vinyl version of my band's first album. It'll probably change in a few months when the second album is released. :p

Thanks, Andii. Cataldos start at almost double that...in USD.

Might still play better than the hybrid by Dean. I picked it up today cause i thought about it & i like how the neck feels, that's all. I don't like the sound, nor the body (to me the deep fret access cut just looks weird, almost like Jackson kelly bird just less metal looking). Tone wise, wasn't impressed. Good sound, but not for me. did not enjoy the active preamp nor the EMG pickups in it.

Wait... is this to say that the Deep Sixx pups are EMGs? Or am I just not reading this correctly (disclosure time... I'm sort of a Grammar/Syntax Nazi...)?

& no, i probably missed a few commas at key places. What i meant to say was as follows:

When i was deciding on replacement pickups in my Epiphone Goth tree bird, i thought of getting the EMG TBHZ pickups because i had tried them (& watched demos) of the schecter ultra bass & gallup bass). But after searching online & finding them for inexpensive but still pricy online, i remembered the Epiphone Blackbird Deep Sixx pickups & found a set for dirt cheap on eBay. I figured: I could try the Deep Sixx pickups, if the tone doesnt work for my own music, i can always swap them for either the TBHZs or the chinabuckers (& just paint the covers black). But i'm pretty damn sure i'll love the Sixx pups & just leave it as is. Cause after it's all assembled & wired, it'll be finished for good, there's no more tweaking after this. The final form
