Thunderbird Club

Cool, I don’t know those we’ll enough. Don’t think I’ve ever seen one in a store.
The Spector Rex is a great bass, it was my first bird. Quite a bit different build than Gibby birds. All maple neck and body with a 35” scale on the 5 string model and a very nice sounding active preamp.

Dang! Looks nearly as long as one o' these.

You hit it out of the park buddy!
Nice score.

Are those kinda like muffler bearings?

That’s a sound I could use, I’d like to retire the only Gibby bird I have with plus pups (the anniversary bird). They’re getting harder to find and very expensive compared to what I paid for it just a few short years ago. A 2021 burgundy NR would be cool if I could find one for under $1800. Seems like there aren’t as many of those floating around on the used market vs the green/blue ones.
People think the Burgundy NR is stunning in person. No regrets on the color choice at all. There do seem to be fewer of those floating around.

I always wanted one of these too!
I used to see them all the time on 48th street in the 70's.
Yup, another wanter of one of those.

Eastwood makes a pretty nice looking reproduction of the old Ampeg. Never played an Eastman so don’t know if they’re any good…

Might be interesting with a Tbird pup dropped in.

I asked at AutoZone about muffler bearing and taillight oil and one guy started laughing. They other said the computer indicated they didn't have either in stock.
They didn’t look hard enough, tell them they’re on the back shelf right next to the right handed screwdrivers and below the left handed hammers. :D

I get curious about things.
That fact doesn't shock me one bit. Thus my snarking driving while typing comment as a major cause. It's scary to sit at a red light and watch how many people have their phone up in their face looking at the screen or navigating parking lots. Most are horrible drivers in the first place and with giving them a phone you would be more safe with a 12 yr old driving. At least they would have some fear help make them careful.

Looks like a sweet “sleeper”!
If I were in sleeper mode I might lean towards this (with a modest scoop over the high rise manifold or some low profile air cleaners under the stock hood)…

That is really nice. The 300 had what was called a TNT 440. Even with 2 tons of car, it would still move.

“Just the Two of Us” in Ab?…..bummer…:rollno:
on “Desafinado” remember to keep the 5th (C) diminished when modulating up from F to G on the F# passing tone…. makes a diff imho…..
I usually have a diminishing 5th of something in my bar, does that count?
And as for “passing tones” I have to admit, I’ve never used a tuner to see if I’m in the key of F#.
:whistle::rolleyes:

not aware of the band or bass-player.., '70s?
Briefly, they are from Jacksonville and were more of a hard rock band from the south. Ronnie Van Zant and Rick Medlock must have lived not far apart as the Skynyrd song Curtis Loew is roughly based on Medlock's grandfather Shorty. (Largely bluegrass player.) Medlock started playing drums for Skynyrd but knew there were better drummers so he backed out. (He's actually a great musician and can play a number of instruments crazy good, and has/had a tremendous voice.) He and the bass player Greg T. Walker played on early Skynyrd demos. Greg was a top notch player as was Jason Thunderfoot Spires, the drummer. On a few songs they showed they were incredible players.

They were popular regionally and had a fair amount of air play in the late 70s and early 80s. They attempted to modernize around 82(?) and should have stuck to who and what they were--a hard rock band from the south. I saw them twice and they were as good as anyone I've ever seen. High energy on crack. They started out powerful and built from there. You left exhausted and got your money's worth.

Likely a better history.

Their first "hit" was this, from their third album. One of those start slow and take off songs.
Not so great live recording, which is more interesting to watch. I remember the first time I heard this on the radio and thought, I've got to figure out who this is. Starts out kind of haunting and turns up the heat as it goes.

Covered a song most will know.

A crowd favorite. (Written by Shorty)

Different for them but a carefree fun song I always thought clever that fit the title "Summer Days." (Not the cover, which could seem inappropriate.)

I’ve played Just the Two of Us a few times over the years. And it always brings Austin Powers and Mini-Me to mind. I’ll try to keep the popping to a minimum.
Thanks for the tip on Desifinado :D.
