Thunderbird Club

Prolly one of these-a neighbor had one-POS.

No, I think it was the 4CV as Red and others suggested. This one is far less Beetlish.

They need to come to FL in April.

Nick always used Coke to clean the windshield; when I'd help him drive between Atlanta and Tampa, I started asking for plain carbonated water when we'd stop for a bite to eat. That was what cleaned the windshield, anyway, but it didn't leave the sticky residue. In a pinch, I'd use RC Cola. I wasn't about to drink it so it might as well have a use.

I was just looking on the Gibson site and noticed the Gene Simmons Thunderbird is in the "Bass" section and the Rex Brown in the "Artist" section. Sick burn? Bad web site design (likely)?

Gibson | Explore The Bass

The usual Gibson marketing debacle. Epi does the same sort of thing, making you look in multiple categories since there's no obvious rhyme or reason to their categorization except in their mind.

Coke (or any cola) is useful for cleaning because of the phosphate content. Most other carbonated drinks do not have the phosphate content of colas, but the carbonation may have some utility.

It’s the phosphoric acid in colas that is a good glass cleaner. The hotter the better.

Oh, the carbonated water does the trick, too. I learned that working fast food; it's the perfect quick cleaner for a hot grill. Takes the love bugs right off the windshield, too.

Renault Dauphine

This and the above look worse than anything horrendously designed by Chrysler in the 60s. And that's saying a lot.

I think those came after the 4CV I posted. The 4CV was known as the 750 for most of its life down here.

Yes they are pretty crook looking. Although the K cars might challenge Donnie? In a rectangular way. Mind you we didn’t get any Ks so I’ve only seen them on TV, and in movies and magazines. But they seemed to out Volvo Volvo in the squared off stakes.

Those pickups don’t look wide enough to be TBird pickups. But what are they?

They are TB+ pickups but in humbucker sized covers. They were used on the LP Standard, Money Bass, The LP Oversized Bass, and even the Epi Elitist Tbird. They are clearer and more aggressive sounding than the regular soapbar style TB+ pickups. I have them in one of my basses (but under chrome covers) and they are fantastic pickups.

This video gives you a good idea of the difference between the two types of TB+ pickups.

This bass has the humbucker sized pickups under the chrome covers.

Agreed. I thought they were hideous. Sharon's mom bought one and was so happy with it. I metaphorically bit my tongue a lot around her car.

The black 2018 Thunderbird came back to me. Let's hope Gibson continues the every-five-years "trend" of left-handed Thunderbirds and I can send this back for one next year. In the meantime, it's a good testbed. I have one set of RS66 left, so I'll put those on this one so I can directly compare them to the SITs.
There's some guy here who swears by SITs and has practically started his own religion.

Coke (the acid in it) [corrected by PillO and Stealth] is good if your windscreen (for UK friends), has accumulated some road oils. Really cuts through it. I keep RainX on mine and it's not a problem.
