I actually liked Duane better and he led the band, especially musically but yes Dickie is also a great guitarist and a great song writer, Berry Oakley was also a great bassist, they were all so jazz influenced. I have a bunch of their early live stuff, even have one from Boson Common from 1970. Berry was usually the spokesperson from what I've read and heard, he had a very calm manner while they were doing their marathon tuning sessions.

I never got to see them. Which really pains me. Style-wise, they really charted their own course. I love most everything they did, even the later albums. Even when they as a band weren't on top of their game they were still great. I love listening to his parts, especially live. Such a cool tone as well.

He worked at Gibson Nashville for a few years, so he would know. But I haven't been able to come up with any data on the 99 Ltd. Or any Tbird in Korina except Epihone.
Anyone else know anything?

I saw them outside at Great Woods in Mass about 30 years ago, they were good but of course they didn't have the spark that you see and hear in their early live stuff and no one has ever really replaced Berry nor Duane although they've had some great players. Both of them were so original they were irreplaceable IMHO.

This video is from 1970, with them playing at a three band gig at The Fillmore East, the vocal mic is off for about ten or so minutes but I watch this video every once in a while even though, it's like a lesson on how to play together as a band. They got a standing ovation at the end, they were not real well known to us Yankees at the time. This reminds me of the Boston Tea Party where I saw some good bands. The closeups are unbelievable in the video. Duane does some stuff that blows my mind here.

It's really good even though the mic is off until about the 11 minute mark, Whipping Post is outstanding, especially the ending, Dickie does a long solo in it, he has a very nice vibrato. There's another song on YouTube from this night too.
