Thunderbird Club

Yep! Pretty much nailed his look there... :)

They made some pretty cool stuff back then, and looked great with the two drummers - Something Adam & The Ants made good use off later on.

Btw, The Glitter Band is still touring....
I like Adam and the ants, he made some cracking music in his earlier days and those two drummers made a hell of an impact. I can't remember the two with the glitter band but I was never a great fan, mostly because of Paul Gadd, he was just odd to me

Never liked Gadd, in hindsight it seems with good reason. Channel 4 made a pseudo documentary called 'The Execution of Gary Glitter' in 2009, in which a British court tried, sentenced and hanged Gadd for his crimes against Vietnamese kids. It was pretty disgusting all round. My favourite TV critic said that it
constructed a complex moral maze from a serious issue, then drove a bus full of squawking clowns through the middle of it," then concluded, "That's certainly made me think – it's made me think, 'I don't know if I want a television any more'.

The Glitter Band used to tour some very small and out of the way places even in their heyday.

T Rex were the first of those bands I liked but now all their songs sound the same.

Could Dave Hill actually play guitar? It always seemed to be Noddy and Jim Lea providing the music, for a lead guitarist he never made much of an impact. One of the best bands ever I reckon, much under appreciated

Dave was essential for the image...

Jim didn't always approve of Dave's costumes, but Dave didn't care and would reply: "You write the songs, Jim - I sell them" (or something along those lines).

That was the quote I think. How he got an image like that with teeth a beaver would be proud of an a haircut styled on the Sydney bridge!

I'd just like to be able to have a mohican, I wouldn't have one, I'd just like to be able too :)

That's a bit odd you'd actually want to "have" a Mohican. Is that in a Biblical sense or in a possessive sense which would be difficult since they are a proud lot and not keen on being owned?

I believe you may have been referring to a Mohawk but one can't be sure such as we all have to deal with this language barrier we have with you, Colin. :D

There's a story that Dave Hill was asked by a cabin attendant on a long haul flight if he would like caviar.

'What's caviar?'
'Fish eggs sir.'
'I'll have two - sunny side up.'

I'll have two of those from an ostrich.... Or made into a decent sized omelette - with lots of bacon.... :)

Of course if true, the intent of that anecdote was to show Hill up as being a thick Brummie yokel, whereas in reality it's indicative of a quick and wicked sense of humour.

It's remarkably difficult to find decent smoked and/or streaky bacon in this country. The cold North has its benefits.

Haven't popped in here in a fair bit, been mostly hanging out on The Gear Page reading up on Marshalls. Gotta sell some stuff, I'll let y'all have first crack if I put a bird on the block, but I'm looking forward to trying out the Greco plugged into my incoming JTM 45/100!

Anyone here ever try 'jumpering' a 2 channel valve head? Jumpering gave good results with locally built AC30s (for guitar) back in the day but not sure I've ever seen anyone doing it with bass. I've seen a pup run into each channel in a pseudo-stereo configuration but that's not quite the same.

Never seen that one before...

Wonder if Dave Hill had forgotten his guitar strap for that performance...

Never seen him like that - He's usually prancing around showing off his glamorous costumes... :)

I'm out on the north coast of Washington's peninsula, love the Slade! I think Dave's foot was messed up when they shot that vid. I loved them growing up and still do today. Jim Lea and his EB were just one more reason I love Gibson basses ;)

I considered getting one of those AB pedals for doing that . Just to give more sound options and volume push if I had two amps running at the same time . I know as you say that guitarists do it but not so sure about bass players .

I have a couple of those pedals, but there is no way I could have two bass amps on any of the stages I typically get to play on. No room. The reason for those pedals (for me) is so you can switch guitars without unplugging anything or making awful noises. You have to get the right one or rewire them to make them work. Some have some kind of electronic wizardry that makes them only work in one direction. I want them to work the other way - two instruments into one amp. Ah, well. It's a 'Bird person thing. We don't do normal.

That's channel changing - done plenty of that as well. By jumpering I mean (on an amp with 2 inputs per channel) a patch cable from the second input of channel 1 to the the first input of channel 2.
