Forgot I have one other bass that has had no work or modifications and near mint as well. I'm the third owner, the second said the original owner told him it came with those knobs. Not typical, but possible I suppose.

Cool! What's your ultimate goal here?

That's a very good question! :D Maybe it's a wild goose chase but I'm looking for a simple smooth sounding overdrive that retains the low end in a way that I don't have to stress about it. Not too modern or fizzy, more like the drive I can get from my Lab Series amps or the Hiwatt. It doesn't have to be very versatile or to go into the distortion/fuzz area. Transparency is ok but I don't mind if it colors the sound (and it will anyway since it's an overdrive...).
In a way, the Bad Monkey does all the things I need and the overdrive it provides is to my liking even when the gain is cranked. It's just the low mid it gives that is sometimes too much as I already use a lot of that frequency in my clean tone. If I had the Monkey on all the time then I could compensate with the eq and concentrate on other more important things in life.
The Monkey can be modded, I know, and I might try that too. But currently it seems I have it on my back...:roflmao:

Just the first. Trying to work so I just listened to the clean clip, so far.

I'm sure the boss will understand. Hey, he can try to guess it too! :D

Sorry...

And your clean clip answer was correct! @PaleAngel_90 's too.

EDIT: Actually you both were wrong! I had to check it again myself. T-Bird first, P-bass second. Sorry again, too much Monkey business.

I'd recommend my Damnation Audio MBD, but that's a pretty expensive trial. I wonder if that EHX Bass Soul Food would meet your needs. But if the Bad Monkey can be modded to what you're looking for, that sounds like your best bet since you already love what it does. There are also preamp pedals that emulate the Hiwatt. I suppose that could be used as an effect.

Yeah, I just remembered those Hiwatt -style preamps too. I'll keep an eye for a Soul Food (those are cheap used) and also for the MojoMojo and Spark Boost (both cheap used and have a good reputation for bass use).
I can't do the Monkey mod myself and also if I find another OD to replace it I can use it on my "homeboard". The built-in cab sim it has is very handy for home recording.

Happy Holidays!

It is far and away my number one. It is, will always be. Perfect fit and finish, stock Babicz bridge, etc., a little under 8 1/2 pounds. No neck dive. And I love all my other TBirds, my Fenders and my Peavy Foundation. With Stainless Steel rounds (SIT Power Steels or Dunlap Marcus Miller Superbrights), and in full humbucker mode (both switches down, or off), it is very much a Tbird. Angry piano tone, nice growl and all that. And then so much more depending on how the tap switches are set. It is wonderful through the Boogie channel on my Mesa TT 800 (Mesa 400/Fender Bassman tone stack) and Mesa Subway 410 and my Ampeg SVT VR/Berg 610.

I wholeheartedly recommend every Tbird enthusiast get one. They were only made the one year and a lot are in their forever homes. If you can get one, you will not be disappointed. A lot were available used early on, I think because some owners didn’t take the time to figure them out.

Oh. And it’s a thing to switch the pickguard to black with the gold emblem.

Cheers!

I’ve seen the EBs with those pickups for sale locally, but never a Tbird.

Nice - did the bridge have the same issue as the T-birds? (too shallow/positioned incorrectly for intonation) or was that only a T-bird issue? Is that the Embassy and is it a short-scale?
