Thunderbird Club

The Needle and the Damage Done is from one of my all time favorite albums, bought it when new. Johnny Cash unfortunately was an off/on again speed freak until he died but Neil's talking about heroin which my youngest brother OD'ed on about twenty years ago, still miss him.
So sorry to hear that Bob.

Cash did about everything. Uppers in the morning to get going and downers in the night slow down. Fortunately his bouts with all that were mostly over later in like. Mostly.

I thought Van Zandt was a great lyricist, he wrote funny little stories.
So true. I like that the songs made sense. To didn't have to know the inside, inside back story for it to mean something--or acid. Funny lines and also very serious material as well. As Ed King said many times Ronnie was amazing at that. Never sat down to write words. They played music and he just started singing. Amazing.

For example Gimme Three Steps is a very funny clever tune.

I read a biography about him a few years ago, I think he did have intermittent problems even later on, it's been a while though.
He definitely did. But I don't think it was anything like it was earlier in his life. I gather that from his sister who wrote an article about about him not long ago. It was described along the lines of he was clean and sober but struggled at times but that seems to mostly have been in the past. Her take anyway. She had her struggles as well. Didn't go into what he was involved with as I recall. If I find that article I'll PM.

I played through one of those years ago, when I started on bass and was learning a lot about amp gear. I was a hired gun for a one-off project and they supplied rehearsal space and amps. When I was shown the amp I was to plug into (a black Kustom), I remember thinking I'm supposed to play through this leather sofa with speakers ? Seriously ?. I changed my mind rapidly, when dialing a sound was real easy and it sounded so good with the band. Only a couple of years later did I really understood what I played into. Forever learning :).
Yep. And don’t forget the Plain Jane Kasino siblings. Pretty much all many of us could afford for a quality amp.

Due to advancing age, I've gone with all lightweight gear(Rumble amp, JBL Eon PA) these days. Especially because all our gigs are get there ~1 hour before, set up, play, pack up, and beat feet. But a few years ago, I looked longingly at a Gold Sparkle Kustom head/cab at a shop in Orlando.
My Kasino 200 2x15 cab took two people to load/unload. I wish I still had that rig.
