Thunderbird Club

This is kinda mind-blowing if you're into Pink Floyd.

Invalid Link Removed

"Animals" is my favourite Pink Floyd album and I wish they had included this rarity in the latest version as a bonus track.
I remember buying the album. It was a late summer 1989 and I got home from a record store with a Columbia reissue vinyl (still with the gatefold and inner sleeve). I can't recall which track was playing but a jet fighter plane flew very low above our house. A very Pink Floyd moment.

Snowy White played bass on 2 of the three main tracks when they toured the album. Only on "Dogs" Waters played bass.

I didn't even know this existed. Agreed: I don't see why they haven't included this as a bonus on re-releases.

While the three groups you mentioned were my favorite EC groups, I'd also include the Yardbirds, Bluesbreakers, and Delaney & Bonnie. But post-Blind Faith, I think I liked maybe 3% of what he did.

Now that I recall, Clapton is/was a cyclist. I remember a picture of him accepting a bike from Ernesto Colnago at one point.

how is the work situation for bassists in your country? are there any non Finn players working there? what kinds of gigs are there?

Might have something to do with royalties. A cynic in me says that Waters doesn't want to pay anything to Snowy White if he doesn't have to 'though I'm not sure if Snowy was entitled to any in this case. He just played on the track (or linking track).
One of my fav Snowy White guitar playing is on this Thin Lizzy b-side released on the rather forgettable "Trouble Boys" single (a Billy Bremner song Rockpile did so much better).
This should have been the A-side, love Lynott's "early morning" voice.

It's definitely better than a year or so ago, no doubt about that. I think most foreign bassists work in Helsinki where the most work is anyway but also most of the players too.

This is still available…a really nice one at a great price considering all the upgrades. Lollars, Babicz bridge, Hipshot tuners. So Dave, it’s time to take the Gibson plunge.
For Sale/Trade - 2006 Gibson Thunderbird - Babicz/Loller/Hipshot
I agree. Wise counsel from Counsel here, Dave..... Fire up them chickens and sell more eggs and jump on this.

My '06 plays and feels 99% as good as my '64. The Lollars in this one would help is get closer to the sound of a '64.

I’m so sorry Bob.

Neil wrote that as a wake-up call for Danny Whitten who unfortunately OD’ed not long after it was released. That song, and this one remind me of how great Danny was. Neil does not do Winterlong very often because of how much he misses Danny on the vocals. Lofgren did a credible job the night I was there and experienced this tribute to Danny.

Thank you and yes I'm a reader so knew why he wrote the song but always thought Whitten had died before the song was written, didn't realize it was the same year and afterward.

The video says unavailable. Is it Memory Pain?

Heritage chickens don't lay eggs in the winter, at least not in colder climates...:crying:

thanks for the feedback, sounds like it’s still better than over here….I remember a time when we belonged to the union and folks could pay a mortgage from just playing music. I was too young (and still in school) to engage full time like that. I can also say that the only time I could make a living from playing was when living in Europe. Great times, one could truly fully engage since it was one’s full time activity. This included hanging out with other musicians, going to shows etc.
Seems like these days, unless you play in a big act, it’s a just a (sometimes) paid hobby over here…..LONG LIVE LIVE MUSIC…

@GBassNorth The EHX Steel Leather arrived yesterday and I've gotten to play with it. Does exactly what it says on the tin. I'm very hopeful this will work great in the band mix. I'll find out next week. Hearing me playing with it, my wife said my bass sounded "fuller." Not sure I'd use that term, but it definitely sounds more alive.

Edit: It would probably be hard to use if you don't have good control over dynamics since it's going to enhance everything. The good and the bad.

With limited venues to play (especially if you play all originals), and (my belief) far less of the younger generation finding any musical passion in playing an instrument, or being interested in going to places to see others that are passionate about playing, I can only hope to get out and do my “hobby” in the few venues left around here. I foresee needing to get into a cover/tribute band if I ever want to play frequently in front of a larger audience that is not actually composed of friends, family and some acquaintances. Not anything wrong at all with cover/tribute acts, I just have never been in one. I’m actually a bit envious of those that have a huge repertoire of cover songs that they can just pull out and play!

Funny, at 56, I’m in two of the best bands I’ve ever been in and playing some of the best fun and well written music, but playing it to far less people than what used to come see bands I was in in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s that seemed considerably less “pro” than what I feel I’m in now.

For any Kate Bush fans out there - this vid is a gem! ...great hi-def vid, great live sound - KB at her absolute prime delivering her introductory classic hit live. Wow-Bob-Wow. What a great document!

Upon closer look - the reason the quality is so good is because it's not actually Kate Bush! It's a more recent KB facsimile road-show! Fooled me it did! The actress/singer has a pretty remarkable likeness, moves and that voice! I'd see that show if it ever came to town!

I just do it because I love it. Almost nothing beats playing music for me. And there's something to be said for not needing your passion/hobby to financially support yourself.
