We left Scotland just as the 2010-2011 2 months of snow/ice was beginning to thaw.

Thats when I lost my job . I was or rather still am a carpenter/joiner . We had hit hard times just before that winter his due to the recession . We had two extentions waiting to start but the snow delayed everything . Then one of the jobs which was a large extension to a vet fell through due to a land dispute . The guy I worked for nearly went under . My job went as foreman as did everyone else , I hated that job but it was local with good pay and I had a van and run the contracts for him . When work eventually kicked in around 3 months later , Id started working as a tech for Sky based on the phone in a large call center . He called and asked if Id come back but couldnt guarantee long term work and take it job at a time . With 4 kids and a mortgage and cars to pay , I declined . I left Sky after 1 yr and started my own photography business but I still do work for friends and family as well as the few others that I dont even advertise for . I have a good rep for leaving tidy work and being both reliable and reasonably priced . Its the best thing that could have happened , but I still curse that winter for many reasons .

The Jam (at least before All Mod Cons) were all Ric. Foxton wanted a P sound but tried to keep the Ric aesthetic, leading to this abomination (apologies in advance to @Sartori), before finally giving up and using a P:

Later on he used an Epi Rivoli and there are videos of him with an Aria Pro II (?). Foxton was one of the main reasons for my early Ric enthusiasm.

Eh, it was his bass to use how he wished.

Though personally I get close enough of an approximation of a P-bass on my Rickenbackers just by soloing the bridge pickup.

Finally some good news! I'm in my third day of training at a phone center. Took a break and checked the messages on my phone. The HR manager for a state job I interviewed for almost a month ago told me my start date is likely to be Tuesday. Haji finally has a job with benefits...and being a state job, the bennie package is BALLER.

Ran a straightedge along the fretboard and there's a hint of lumpiness around 3, 4 and 5 but past there everything is dead smooth all across the neck up to 20. I'm going to let it sit for a while before fiddling with it again - at least until the current heatwave is over.

Was it a short straight edge? To find a high or low fret you need a straight edge that will cover no more than 3 frets then search for a rocker. Like all things you can buy a special tool for that for just a few quid from the land of China.

Probably because they're "...hand-made of well-selected materials in a factory in Europe." Must be that transplanted Chinese one.

$40 for the rings, $360 for the pups. I think the known quantity of Thunderbuckers at the same price level is the safe bet

The Jam was a British mod band - in a league by themselves and nowhere like The Cars...

They started out on the punk circuit in the mid 70s but soon became persona non grata because they started hiring rollers to take them to gigs (punk was seen as a "done on the cheap" sort of thing at the time). Another couple of casualties were the lovely Billy Bragg for being a knob and sir bOBB! (Geldolf) for being a posh snugglemuffin.

I like the Jam these days, I guess we were the ones that lost out back then. Bragg I still hate with a vengence and dislike sir bOBB even though "I don't like Mondays" was a cracker of tune to be fair, the rest of the rats were decent enough guys as I remember

If you can just span 3 frets then if you have a low fret you will get a rock if one is slightly high or low. This is the sort of thing I'm on about Mandolins Fret Rocker 4-in-1 For Guitar Bass Stainless Steel Luthier Tool | eBay between the different sides there should be one that covers just 3 frets, a handy bit of kit I think but any straight edge will do equally well as long as it just covers the 3 frets

Actually, I will suggest that the store account may be hacked. Kitchen in the name and selling musical instrument (singular)? No other sales from that storefront in two years? Red flags all over the listing.

I'll have to get out of this hole I got in being unemployed six and a half months first, so maybe I swap out the pickups in the TBIV as a stopgap. I really do need a white, red, Pelham blue, yellow and orange TBird, though.

Thanks guys! I was sure glad to get the call; I've been in training at a call center for a couple days. I quit there today; they seemed actually sad to see me go. I dunno if they really meant it, but they all wished me the best on the me job. They also understood wanting to take that new job. LOL!
