Worked for the Stones. Especially Wyman. It’s why they hired him. His amp had inputs for all. It's for all the members of the band. Cuts down on amps.
A couple cheap shotgun mics and an old Zoom recorder are far more effective than you might think.Too bad. Those tiny mics can't get low end very well. Do you have any sort of handheld recorder? I have a Tascam I've used for ages to record band practices.
And cheap to buy used. The Zoom stuff is great too.
Donnie, maybe the sound guy can record a piece for you next time?Well, @BklynKen I recorded a couple things this morning on my iPad from about where I stand. Even recorded part of a song. Sounded awful. Nothing at all like it really sounded. With just me it sounded like I turned the bass down to about 9:00 and with the song the bass was buried by instruments and singers. Got to talk to the sound guy. Those people are covering me up.![]()
A jam from Thursday night. I need to lower those pickups a bit more:

Did you see that Bill Wyman doc made a few years ago? It was the kind of film that only either a bass-player or hard-core Stones fan would watch.![]()
I used my old Peavey head that way on one occasion. Not for a gig, however.Worked for the Stones. Especially Wyman. It’s why they hired him. His amp had inputs for all.
We used to record from the board, but few were that interested so we stopped. The way it sounds through FOH (and the EQ looked) it didn't sound much like bass. One reason I refuse to give up my head and cab. At least I can pump out some lows that way.Donnie, maybe the sound guy can record a piece for you next time?
(Assuming they don’t record as a matter of course now?)
Funky. Nice groove(but aren't you s'posed to warn us that there'll be a bass solo?A jam from Thursday night. I need to lower those pickups a bit more:

Is that on youtube or a streaming channel?Did you see that Bill Wyman doc made a few years ago? It was the kind of film that only either a bass-player or hard-core Stones fan would watch.![]()
Yes that is the Discobass. I took out the stock wiring and changed it to VV (no room for a tone) with 500k pots.Is this using the Discobass? It has a distinctive sound, similar but unlike a couple other basses I could mention. Nice extrapolating. When in a free-form jam, I find myself in a similar neighborhood - holding down the roots, but adding melodic content. If I were in this jam with you (two bass players which I've been a part of in the past) I'd be holding down the basics when you would free-form & visa-versa. I enjoy both options and if the other bass player favors one or the other - I head in the opposite direction!
Thanks Donnie!Waiting for tour dates around here! Great stuff, Irv!
Oops you’re rightFunky. Nice groove(but aren't you s'posed to warn us that there'll be a bass solo?)
