I’m thinking about doing that. Don’t have much to lose trying. Convert it to a slightly fatter off the shelf screw.

I think they are running out of 760 pickups..that's why they introduced the Newport. Half of the 760's in each Bass.

Didn't matter. Needed something to be able to semi-retire the 65/7 Thunderbird from the rigors of gigging.

Oh. It seemed like you preferred the Newport over the Embassy.
And that is correct. It's only the sleeve photos that people think he played that Ric on "Made In Europe". Of course the sound is Ric-like too (whatever that means) but the visuals fooled me too when I bought the album. Hughes looked great with that Ric but sounded better with the Precision. And especially with that Hiwatt/Martin wall behind him.
Anyone have any suggestions on where to find National bass serial numbers? Since the headstock is missing a logo, all I have as identification is a serial number. The confusing part is the serial number looks more like what I’ve seen on Teisco basses but Teisco tends to be engraved on the neck plate and this is a printed foil.
P.S. image searches after posting indicate it is a National. Just curious about the year. Could be mid 60s to early 70s.

P.S. I found one that is also missing the logo. So, I'm guessing this is a mid-60s bass.

I made another clip with my modded/mutated/mutilated "Richard Sinclair" J-bass. This time I went on full-Squire and I have to say it could fool people. I also wouldn't hesitate to replace my Ric 4003's bridge pickup with that kind of J-humbucker or a T-Bird pickup if I had to.
That does sound great! Wish my modern Ric I once had sounded that good!
