Thunderbird Club

A Thunderbird has different ergos that the usual clone type bass, which means there's a learning curve. Or maybe not, in the case of some of us who naturally find the way you can have a low picking hand and high fretting hand ideal. It's an easy reach and more comfortable if it works for you. It's not a long reach at all with the neck tipped up. If you swing the bass around to your hip, it's an easy reach even if you don't have it tipped up.

If that bass has chosen you, you have been chosen. That's how you become a Thunderbird player. It's kismet.

The trick is to get the strap to the right length. I'm 165cm/5'6" and my right arm is almost straight in playing position, going across the mid point of the upper cutout, with the bridge pup aligned on my centreline.

That is definitely not in my wheelhouse, playing-wise. I really wish I was closer to a GC where I could try something out. Buying it online incurs shipping costs if it doesn't work for me.

They're fairly well distributed; are there no music stores within driving distance you can check with? I used to make trips to LA from east county San Diego just to go check out music stores. Make a day trip of it since it was a couple hour drive.

There were several things I used to think about TBirds that proved untrue. They seem really long, but they're not. They seem huge and i thought they'd be heavy. Theyre not. They seem so huge, they oughta have tons of room for electronics. They don't.

I think that's why most of us feel the Bird choses the player as often as the player chooses the Bird. It's sort of a natural filter against people who aren't cool enough to own them. :D

The genuine article: well under 8 lbs and doesn't neck dive-even with big headstock and Klusons...

Well they don't have any within a couple hours of me. I could buy it from GC and have it shipped to the store for free, but then it's considered a special order and the return policy doesn't apply. I was gonna buy one from Sweetwater but shipping would kill me. Amazon would probably be the best bet with prime.

More Joan Jett than anything else.

Cooler-than-thou band tshirt (Radio Birdman), black jeans, black Adidas canvas hi-top trainers.

Of course, once I'm playing out again, I'll be rocking the dresses/skirts à la Nicky Wire, Kim Gordon and our very own Veronica Steed.
I always thought Kim Gordon was quite the hottie... just sayin'.

If course, there's nothing like a great pair of legs (your Grace...)!

Joan Jett was, for years, my favorite though. Still held in high regard here.

So many birds, so little time!
