See, I prefer as little taper as possible. Not sure how consistent the necks on Epis are, but they're definitely more comfortable to me than Gibsons. Wish it had a more shallow D shape, actually.
I don't think the edges are rolled, though.

Yeah I like the taper of a J bass. that way it's thinner up near the first 5 frets, where most of the playing is done. Much easier on my hands. Who knows at this point. I just know I want that T-bird sound. Id love to do a custom build with some Lull pickups but pricing that out was very expensive. Also wasn't sure if Warmoth would do a custom pickup route.
I absolutely detest that about J basses. Not so much the narrowness at the nut (though that's annoying), but the flare towards the body. Can't stand it.
I don't mind being ridiculous, so I put Thunderbuckers and a Babicz bridge on my Epiphone, as well as getting a custom pickguard, control plate, and TRC.
See you and I have completely different tastes in necks apparently. I definitely love the J bass necks. So is the Epiphone similar to a J bass neck?
I'm also toying with the idea of throwing some Mike Lull pickups in my J bass. I'd just have to do some routing and be willing to deal with any paint damage that goes along with it I guess. I'd love the bass though, I'm sure.
Well, the fact that I like it should tell you something.
I almost paid an exorbitant amount to ship a TBird w/case once. Then I was instructed to open an account with UPS. It's free to do and it cuts the price way down on shipping. I've shipped basses with cases for less than $70 and basses alone for $45. Of course this is me doing the packing and filling out the form online and printing my own shipping label. The dimensions of the box, the weight and value is all you need to fill out and you'll get a fixed price and a shipping label. Then you just drop it off at a UPS Store.
I decided to take the bird to practice last night. We are adding more rock to our set and the primary focus was the new tunes. I also wanted to get a feel for how it fit in the mix. I had a great time. I had the bird dimed and the amp rolled up pretty good too, they loved the tone. I may never get to take anything else every again. Suffice it to say, the bird rocked!! Love it and now I want more. IS that normal?

I feel like such an *******, but every time I see a thread about a new Warmoth build, and it turns out just to be a regular PJ or something, I find myself a bit disappointed.
Not knocking any of you who've gotten that, it's just I always hope for something weird and crazy.

Got a 2nd hand Epi Firebird Studio 3 weeks ago, which was in excellent condition - Except one of the Steinberger tuners was missing a thumbscrew.
Steinberger tuners aren't readily available - Except the rare used ones on Ebay, which usually cost a fortune.
So I wrote to Epipphone Customer Support, and gave them my serialnumber 17 days ago, and today I not only received the missing thumbscrew - but a complete Steinberger tuner for free! Now, that's what I call great customer service!
This is the 2nd time I've had requested support from them - The last time, I made a request for a new saddle for a chrome 3-point bridge, which also came in less than three weeks.

Ya know, there's just something about a TBird that screams Rock n Roll. If you asked a dozen people to look at that pic and guess what genre of music your were playing they'd all say Rock or Classic Rock. Now photoshop a three tone sunburst P bass with tort guard and maple fretboard into that exact same pic in place of the bird and half the people you ask would say country western. Gotta love those Birds!
Indeed it was... and, my Fender is my country bass. Odd, I think not!

I like baseball bat necks for the most part, and Thunderbirds have noodles by my standards. But, they have round backs, which makes up for it. They are tapered evenly, unlike a Ric. I couldn't tell you exactly how the neck is, because I hardly feel the edge of the neck when playing and I don't have an Epi Classic. The fret ends on a Gibson are fairly abrupt. I wouldn't call them sharp, but they aren't polished and smooth like they would be if you have a luthier smooth and polish them.
