Thunderbird Club

The Doors offered the gig to a coupla(studio)bass players they used on their records. Neither wanted the hassle of the road-or Jim Morrison.

Here's good article although not entirely accurate. According to this they offered the job to Douglas Lubahn (he was perfect for them IMHO), and Jerry Scheff after L.A. Woman but Morrison died not long after.

The Secret History of the Doors' Bass Players

that’s Paris two years ago……you gotta get out more;)….yeah still down here, flying back tomorrow…..accepted an offer and gave two week notice from down here…..:D
next week is my last, then start on the 3rd…..new gig is 100% remote which means I could have stayed down here had it not been for an up and coming gig this coming Sunday at a SC brewery…..

I'm one to set my amp once and measure/access any bass I play through it based on that set-up - not much of an amp-tweaker. I'll sometimes adjust my d.i.+ and/or BBE Sonic Stomp and the V & T controls on the bass - but usually not much or ever. So pu differences are pretty distinct to my ears and I'll gravitate to one or the other when recording to achieve a specific sound character/tone. Live, I use a bass that is versatile as our sets are very eclectic. It's why I don't use a P-bass, and honestly why I don't use my T-bird. It's just what works best for me in my bands.

I like to get to a gig early if I've never played the room before. I set the amp flat and go from there, it usually doesn't take me very long.

Yes, except the B3 pedals sound good, that thing Manzarek played was terrible. Even most of their first album has electric bass ghosting his bass keyboard.
The 7ender Rhodes Bass keyboard was nothing but the bottom three octaves(starting on E)of a Rhodes piano.

This thing(Rheem KeeBass)sounds much better(yes, I have this one).

The Rascals rule! Good ‘ol American rock and roll.

Little Steven swears by them. As does The Boss. And many others. The Rascals and Buffalo Springfield, were our answer to the British Invasion. Sure. There were others. But the Rascals were a very important influence.

BTW, I’ll be starting my book on them and other American and Canadian greats in a couple years after my retirement. I’ll be asking @Miles_ONeal for tips on that whole book writing thing. And I hope to be teaching a college course on the subject as well. We’ll see. As long as working for the clampdown doesn’t get me first.
put me down for a copy Marshall

Don't forget about the Beau Brummels or The Byrds.

One o' these days-if I remember it-I'll post our song(not set-we don't 'do' sets)list. "Let's Do The Time-Warp Again"(no, we don't do that). Almost everything is 50's, 60's, or 70's. That's what our crowd wants to hear: memories of their school/dating/getting some days. The newest thing we do is "Tennessee Whiskey"(2015 'cos a lot of our 55+ y/o crowd likes it). I don't, but for the next three+ minutes I play A and B minor whole notes and catch a nap.

Never really paid much attention to them, did they have a bass player? Didn’t see one in the video.

No. The singer couldn’t play anything but a bit of percussion and they wanted to stay as a four piece, so Felix would add some bassy stuff now and them on keys. Later they uses session bassists.

Awesome! And stop rubbing it in!

I’m 85% - 90% remote. My main office is in Sherman Oaks. in “The Valley.” 77 miles from the mountain house. I rarely go there. But I have to go to downtown L.A. three or for times a month. Sometimes it requires an overnight. Unless I have a trial, which means down and back or crummy hotels over multiple nights. Which is a total PIA. At least I get paid. Other than Dodger Stadium, which overlooks downtown, downtown L.A. totally sucks. We have a place in Whittier, which is about 20 or so miles to the east, but it’s easier to commute from the places up north than from there. Traffic totally sucks. It’s crazy that it is easier to drive 80 miles with moderate traffic than 20 miles in stop an go traffic. Who ever thought this was a good idea? I’ll stop. Don’t want to get banned.

And, please, get off of my lawn.
Whittier was home to SWR…
