Thunderbird Club

Bob.., not "Bobby's your uncle"! :D

Bobby is my wife's chihuahua, I'm Robert to her.

Are you still down there? I thought you had a real job….
that’s Paris two years ago……you gotta get out more;)….yeah still down here, flying back tomorrow…..accepted an offer and gave two week notice from down here…..:D
next week is my last, then start on the 3rd…..new gig is 100% remote which means I could have stayed down here had it not been for an up and coming gig this coming Sunday at a SC brewery…..

I ordered some Seymour Duncan standard Thunderbird pickups for my Orville, they'll take a little while to get here, but I'm pretty excited to give them a try.

I was looking at those last night and saw that they list them as over 12k. That seems like they would be pretty aggressive, so I can't wait to hear your verdict!

I wonder how long they've made them - they certainly weren't around in '86 or that's probably what I would have used. Having said that, no way would I consider changing mine at this point as I'm very content with the way it sounds and have been for.., a lot of years! :)
Around 2010 I ordered custom made 60s spec Thunderbird pickups by Seymour Duncan and put them under Bicentennial covers for my Ebony 1976 Thunderbird.

What did you think of them compared to all the other Thunderbird pickups you've played?
They are to clean imho, they have the highs and mids but not the grit. At the time I was happy with them as there was nothing else available at the time and the bass came to me loaded with ceramic TB Plus pickups, just about anything would have been a improvement. Thunderbuckers and Epiphone 760 Pro buckers are my favorites.

Veeeery interesting! Well, I...not yet...wait...maybe in a couple of days...we'll see...
I think SD’s and Lollar’s are the best upgrade options these days now that Thunderbucker Ranch is no longer in business. YMMV. If Gibson would offer the ‘21 NR pickups in their pickup store, I’d buy a set.

Can someone with a ‘21 NR measure the output and see how they compare with the SD’s and Lollars’s? I don’t have a meter to do that.

I joined my first band in 1967 when I was about 14, we were playing stuff like 'Midnight Hour', 'Mustang Sally' (Young Rascals versions), some Beatles, 'I Need You' 'Abilene' George Hamilton IV, believe it or not, lots of others but those stand out, oh yeah, Barry and The Remains. Two Silvertone Twin Twelves for two guitars, two mics and a bass . They actually sounded pretty good at a moderate volume, I didn't own a bass amp at that time. We had no keyboard so we pretended.

Really great, slow soulful version:

The Rascals rule! Good ‘ol American rock and roll.

Little Steven swears by them. As does The Boss. And many others. The Rascals and Buffalo Springfield, were our answer to the British Invasion. Sure. There were others. But the Rascals were a very important influence.

BTW, I’ll be starting my book on them and other American and Canadian greats in a couple years after my retirement. I’ll be asking @Miles_ONeal for tips on that whole book writing thing. And I hope to be teaching a college course on the subject as well. We’ll see. As long as working for the clampdown doesn’t get me first.

Awesome! And stop rubbing it in!

I’m 85% - 90% remote. My main office is in Sherman Oaks. in “The Valley.” 77 miles from the mountain house. I rarely go there. But I have to go to downtown L.A. three or for times a month. Sometimes it requires an overnight. Unless I have a trial, which means down and back or crummy hotels over multiple nights. Which is a total PIA. At least I get paid. Other than Dodger Stadium, which overlooks downtown, downtown L.A. totally sucks. We have a place in Whittier, which is about 20 or so miles to the east, but it’s easier to commute from the places up north than from there. Traffic totally sucks. It’s crazy that it is easier to drive 80 miles with moderate traffic than 20 miles in stop an go traffic. Who ever thought this was a good idea? I’ll stop. Don’t want to get banned.

And, please, get off of my lawn.

Don't forget about the Beau Brummels or The Byrds. Edit: This was produced by Sly Stone
