Thunderbird Club

TBH, it's one reason I never went to see "The Doors". Had the chance at the famous Miami 'show'. Didn't care for them.
Interestingly, the community concert band I'm in is playing a Doors medley at our next concert(next Tuesday).

I've always really liked them but all their albums had great bass players on them. I would have gone just for the spectacle.

There are many Thunderbird pickups available. I listed them in a post a long time ago. Others have too. I’m too lazy to look. But There are Bart’s some from Europe, and the pedestrian EMG’s along with others.

IMO, you don’t gain much by trying to upgrade TBird+ pickups. Adjust EQ and use a dirt pedal/ or different preamp if you are chasing a specific tone. And that works with the standard Epi IV pickups too.

Some of us like to tinker. And that is where it gets fun. But in reality, you can get pretty much everything you need out of stock pickups and EQ tweaks. I’ve learned a lot from messing with the humble Artec pickup in my BaCH. It has a ton of different tones depending on the setting in the two channels of the Mesa Tt800.
the Artec is an ok pickup…..the BaCH NR II, being such an awesome bass deserves better imho…..like this…

I bought a J neck for my Fender P/J last year, it's still at my brother's house in Mass. Black headstock with gold lettering, it was expensive but too nice to pass up and I wanted a J neck for it anyway.

Why are you in South America while your massive bass and amp museum are in northern North America?

What will they go in, the Epi IV? I really like the Epi IV pickups. I have them in the Epi PB Custom Shop, the RED Custom Shop and the GOTH. Easy to get great Thunderbird tone from them with the right amp/effects tweaks.

The PB bird won’t be touched. Too rare. And it plays and sounds great. The red Custom Shop and the Goth are up for pickup mods for something different. Lollars for sure in one of them.

And I swear that I won’t buy another Thunderbird until I’m dome modding what I have. At least that’s the story I tell my wife…..

A second VP.

Yes, except the B3 pedals sound good, that thing Manzarek played was terrible. Even most of their first album has electric bass ghosting his bass keyboard.

I contend a different kind of good that cemented their distinctive "urban/LA" vibe/sound.

I like to get to a gig early if I've never played the room before. I set the amp flat and go from there, it usually doesn't take me very long.

For sure - on a typical three band Sat night, we always go first. That way - we get there early, set-up and sound-check, and chill for a bit before going on. Bond Girl has such a gig this at night at Winters' Tavern in Pacifica. 15 songs, 45-50 min set of spy rock. :bassist:

Our set:

1) The Man with the Golden Gun
2) Dr No
3) History Repeating
4) Perhaps. Perhaps, Perhaps
5) A Shot In the Dark
6) The Spy - In the House of Love
7) Last of the Secret Agents
8) Diamonds are Forever
9) The Avengers Theme
10) You're Never There
11) Skyfall
12) Mission : Impossible
13) From Russia with Love
14) Goldfinger
15) Nobody Does it Better

You could have had Sean Connery as a doorman had he not passed away.

Well, my band played our second show with me on lead guitar.

I'm the one with the Rasta get up.

And that show, once again, pressed it into me that I need to start using some proper guitars. As the Yamaha APX I'm brandishing in this picture has some serious feedback issues and my old eighties Washburn, while looking cool, has issues with actually staying in tune.

Using my Washburn on our previous show.

So, I have been busy scouring proper replacements and here they are.

A Fender Mexico Player strat which I bought for Squier money and an Epiphone Chet Atkins steel string. Both will see a lot of use.
Very nice! And if they’re available where you are, might I suggest trying SIT strings. I use them on my two guitars (a cheap Squier Strat and a 70’s Aria acoustic). As the name suggests, I find that they they “Stay In Tune.”

next week is my last, then start on the 3rd…..new gig is 100% remote which means I could have stayed down here had it not been for an up and coming gig this coming Sunday at a SC brewery…..
Congrats! So Marshall and I aren't the only ones making career moves:D
