As time goes on I'm finding that I prefer my single pickup Birds, II's be they from Gibson, Lull, Greco or BaCH, the IVs have a place as well, not like I'm going to quit playing them anytime soon.

That's the Greco, there's just something exceptional about it's pickup - there's just so much more going on. It's really splitting hairs between my II's they're all similar, the one thing I am going to try is some Nickel Rounds for the Lull and the Greco because the set on the Gibson sound so good, there's a bit of "warmth" for lack of a better term coming from the Gibson.

When Mike and I discussed building my T4 he was a bit surprised that I wanted a II, a decision I've never regretted. It's P bass simple, pure Rock n Roll.

Mike had owned a II and several other Birds so he knew well beforehand what one could sound like. It was that I made the choice to have him make me a II, at the time it hadn't crossed his mind to offer them, mine was the first II he made though certainly not the last, IIRC he made a 5 string II for Huge McDonald along with this nice Non Reverse.

Even 'though I started with an Aria XRB (Jackson style) P/J bass I usually used the P-pickup only since I hated the P/J sound and when I bought the Ric 4003 I usually used the bridge pickup only but after that I mainly have used two pickup basses and as it happens they seem to be more or less modelled after the T-Bird pickup configuration. Two humbuckers in Jazz Bass -style locations.
The good thing is that I can also solo the neck pickup and it works and sounds good (to my liking) with the same setup.

I just counted that I now have 5 basses with T-bird pickups. There must be something there that I like, can't be just this club can it?

There's a lot of tb 'conjecture' that having a bridge pu somehow takes something away from a neck pu even when it's completely off. There's a chance unicorns exist also...

I've always preferred IIs !

I also very much like my one pu basses. (all three!) But even though I favor more definition and midrange (aka - two pu's) - having both pu's gives the option of using one or the other or both.

I have three singles also. A P-bass, Stingray and a fretless Aria SB700. I used to own this Ibanez Roadster RS900 which was modded with a T-Bird pickup.

Me too. It is a great bass, damn heavy but it was that era.
I might prefer the RS800 actually which was passive and had a mahogany body with maple top and back instead of ash. John Wetton played a black RS800 during the last days of UK in 1979.
The two pickup version RS820 would be interesting too (or more interesting actually). It's strange they didn't compete with Sabre but had the pickups in Jazz Bass positions as the RS800/900 was a pretty straight Stingray competitor.

Really pretty bass - very keen on the belly-bevel. It's how I've beveled my own.

Welp...........I decided Spring is here in SE PA and pulled the 'bird out of winter hibernation last night. A couple years ago I gave up on trying to keep the neck straight'ish in the dry air, and now just un-string it and put it away in favor of my MIM Jazz (it doesn't sound as good, but its indestructible) when the heat is on at home. Anyway.....bringing the 'bird up to pitch, the neck has a bit more relief than I would like, but I can live with it. It will get straighter in the hot/humid months.

I may use it for the Easter service.......rose from the dead and all that.......seems appropriate.
