As time goes on I'm finding that I prefer my single pickup Birds, II's be they from Gibson, Lull, Greco or BaCH, the IVs have a place as well, not like I'm going to quit playing them anytime soon.

After a good setup, with fret dressing, new strings (50-120), pickup height adjustment, Saddles and bridge and intonation spot on, correcting the neck relief, and a overall inspection and adjust the action to be low and fast, this Bolt-on Epiphone Thunderbird plays like a dream in Drop C tuning. If only. Having turned 65, my life insurance premium for the year just went up by about that amount. It sucks getting old. Maybe I should see if AARP can get me a lower price (you know, that insurance broker posing as an organization looking out for retirees).

Do not underestimate the goodness to be found in the Epi bolt-ons. Nice Thunderbird!

Thx. I’ve looked at W&W straps in the past, they have some really nice looking ones, but for some reason I haven’t ever bought one. I might have to change that.

Welp...........I decided Spring is here in SE PA and pulled the 'bird out of winter hibernation last night. A couple years ago I gave up on trying to keep the neck straight'ish in the dry air, and now just un-string it and put it away in favor of my MIM Jazz (it doesn't sound as good, but its indestructible) when the heat is on at home. Anyway.....bringing the 'bird up to pitch, the neck has a bit more relief than I would like, but I can live with it. It will get straighter in the hot/humid months.

I may use it for the Easter service.......rose from the dead and all that.......seems appropriate.

Welcome back! Is the rod maxed out? What type of Thunderbird is it? Inquiring minds want to know. And maybe we can suggest a couple of things.

Exactly. I always plays right at the bridge. I like the tension. If I got a II, I'd have to install a thumb rest near the bridge. But being left-handed, fat chance I'd find anything Thunderbird-related beyond what I've already got.

Same here, usually play at the bridge, also like the tension, been doing it for years, especially fingerstyle but I usually play close to the bridge with a pick too, I hand mute a lot.

I'm not certain, but next time I'm in Carpinteria (just south of SB) I'm going to check them out in person.
