Thunderbird Club

From another thread, just because:
Studio time today. Vocals. Not mine thankfully but for a song of mine so I'll just act up as a producer. Or just act up.
But with those in the can and some mixing and mastering this song will be up for a release (with a couple of b-sides). For now a short clip with only the bass and the drums:

EDIT: OK, for some reason it reposted my "thumbs up" post(?) This is what was s'posed to come up:

Funny thing is, when i had first bought the bass new, i had installed a makeshift opti-grab. Useless as all hell to me. Never used it, i just rest my hand on the bridge itself, & if i need to lift it up, There's enough bridge to anchor on xD

I doubt many players incorporate that totally idiosyncratic addition. It's where "signature bass" is either something to "collect" (as is), or play - and if you are going to play it - why would anyone be expected to go out of their way to adapt to a style that makes no sense to how they actually play. You proved the point by your reaction to it.

Does anyone know what the Rex Brown Thunderbird preamp does? When engaged does it provide any tone shaping like a mid cut or any other frequency cut/boost? Gibson really sucks at providing information about their bass products.

Gibson: Hey check out this new Thunderbird. It's got a preamp!

Potential buyer: What's the preamp do?

Gibson: It's got a preamp!

TB enables again.
Just got this for all totaled, slightly over his asking in after shipping and tax. Shipping and tax sure can kill what is otherwise a great deal.

That's a Studio Thunderbird in the link, it that the bass you purchased? If so, it is mislabeled. Studios are not laminated neck thru, they are slab body set neck basses, made from 2005-2010.
The neck is much like the newest Non Reverse, a bit more meat than the standard neck thru Bird, the TB Plus pickups are a very good match for this specific bass. I like mine a lot!

The one at this link?

This seems to be that magic year for Thunderbirds.

Gibson Thunderbird IV 2001 - Vintage Sunburst | Reverb

.....pulls up an ad for what looks like a regular T-bird to me?

The link has changed to show active listings on Reverb. The link originally showed a 2001 sunburst Bird.

Now I’m confused, I definitely do not want a set neck if I think I’m getting a neck through. And is $1400 a good deal for a studio? What are the differences between a studio and a IV?

I will likely cancel the sale if it is mislabeled, and I can prove it.
I am 99.99% sure you got exactly what you thought. I just went to the link I sent and it was still the 2001 Thunderbird. Not sure why Reverb is showing different results to different people.
