Pine needles? Is it pine needles? I bet it is pine needles.

The running joke in these parts is that hipsters drink IPA and they all taste of pine needles (the beers. Maybe the hipsters too, but I don't want to find out).

Most IPA's I've tried had a strong piney flavor to them. Not all, but most.

like this?

To be sure, I haven’t tasted this

Last summer, a friend brought a very good bottle of cognac to the cottage weekend. I have never been a brandy drinker (probably because growing up my dad bought some sort of cheap rot gut brandy and the stuff smelled nasty).

Over the course of a glass, I developed a taste for it. Three of us went through the better part of 40 oz of VSOP.

optimal 3 words that needs to proceed any libation...

That's likely the LS song I don't have to hear too often. Heard it countless times and played in bands more times than I can count--but it's great once in a while. (LS tip: Every song sounds much, much better on their live album.)
That and Sweet Home Alabama I got tired of due to airplay- but only the album versions by themselves. I’m fine hearing the whole album. But live? I could put that video on repeat for a while.

Exactly correct!
If you have a stock Goth and are considering changing its sound, I would STRONGLY suggest removing the stock tone cap and replacing it with a .022uf one. The difference it makes is mind blowing (and nearly speaker blowing as well). The stock pickups are very hot but that stock tone cap throws a wet blanket on them. The new cap costs all of $5 or less, takes 10 minutes to install and lets the Goth retain its outward stock appearance.

Before the change I was setting my neck pup volume on about 9 and bridge at about 5 with the tone knob at about 8. What I got sounded good, but I was clearly about out of room to go any brighter and nudging the tone knob down below 5 turned the output to indistinguishable overly bassy notes. As Mike said, it sounded like it was being played on the other side of a wall.

After the change my settings are neck volume at about 2 or 3, bridge volume off and tone off. At that setting I get incredibly loud and clear super deep tone with tons of lower mids, nice balanced mids and upper mids and a rolled off but still present top end. Besides letting the pickups breathe and not sound choked it negated the need to roll in the bridge pickup for necessary clarity and gave me a full range tone knob again.

But be warned you’ll get a huge volume boost, so first time playing after the mod, go easy on the volume level. I wasn’t aware of that when I did mine and just left the volume and tone settings in pre mod positions. Hit an open E and nearly knocked the house off its foundation.

Thx for chiming in George.

Studio time today. Vocals. Not mine thankfully but for a song of mine so I'll just act up as a producer. Or just act up.
But with those in the can and some mixing and mastering this song will be up for a release (with a couple of b-sides). For now a short clip with only the bass and the drums:

Only thing missing is an Optigrab. I really like that Andi.

Funny thing is, when i had first bought the bass new, i had installed a makeshift opti-grab. Useless as all hell to me. Never used it, i just rest my hand on the bridge itself, & if i need to lift it up, There's enough bridge to anchor on xD

Looks like it would be good for Roots Rock. :bassist:

I see what you did ;)
