Thunderbird Club

Yeah, I read that the other day, not sure what you were doing but I was doing mostly originals with some covers mixed in, played all over the state of Mass but usually got to go home at night. I'm sure you know this, when you play with the same band night after night you feel like you can read the others' minds. That's the ultimate to me and I haven't had that feeling for a long time. I'll get it once in a while at a jam though.
I've been playing with the current lineup since 2014, most weekends pre-covid. Bookings have dropped off since then, but still working 3-4 gigs a month. Band is usually pretty tight, but the jazz influenced drummer and I don't seem to ever quite be on the same page. It's sometimes frustrating when there's a perfect spot for an accent, or a triplet rhythm, or (?), but he's more into random kicks. At least he rarely plays too loud.
I'm not an 'at home' player, so gigging with these guys is basically all I've got and there isn't a lotta call for a 77 y/o, somewhat overweight bass player in this area. Even the occasional jams have tapered way off around here, and I'm really not enthused about schlepping all my :poop: just for S&G. I'll do it for an inside gig, but not for an afternoon, outside thing when it rains damn near every afternoon and there's a mad scramble to protect gear. BTDT, ain't gwine do it again.

Hmmm, check the copyright date...

My band had a regular gig at Bethesda Naval Hospital just outside of Washington DC in the late 70's and early 80's. It was a big NCO club. Those people were some of the hardest partiers I've ever seen.
The place was packed at load in.
You have to be careful...

Making a long story short, when I was in the SSF, one of my friends had his two week old jeep burned on the parade square. He was picked up by the MPs about 5 minutes after the fire and he was taken off base for protection. He had a day or two of administrative leave before being posted for his safety. Perpetrators never found as they ran a very effective distraction campaign and no one talked.
