There’s more to bass than low down thump. Pretty much thanks to Sir Paul.

The reason I play bass is from the first time I heard 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' in early 1964 when I was ten. I wanted to play one of those humming guitars. Went from flutophone, to trumpet to baritone horn, then guitar and finally got a bass, I still remember the first time I played one, loved it. The Beatles were a magic time.

Not him alone. There were many of his contemporaries going that direction; he just gets the bulk of the credit.

Probably because he has a knighthood. I maintain that until he slays a dragon, his knighthood is meaningless...

McCartney was by far the most visible bass player in the world when they first came out, no one even knew who Jamerson was. We thought there were a bunch of different bass players at Motown. I believe he and Paul wrote the electric bass book that everyone stands on. It took me a while to realize just how good he really was back then, same with Ringo, it was just too big and you didn't realize that stuff was seeping in and influencing you until it was over. I couldn't care less about Royalty either, I did capitalize it though, just in case.

As a Neil fan, I bend a bit. My wife is huge into country (she goes to CMA week in Nashville most years, I stay home with the dogs) so I have to be open minded. Most of it is rubbish. But there is some Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yokum, Zac Brown Band, and other stuff I’ll admit to liking.

Both kinds of music? Country and Western?

Ys, I like the old stuff, like Merle Haggard a lot. I like the old country tearjerkers too.

Stand By Your Man or Rawhide?

I am one of the people that likes to buy the album rather than the downloads. Probably just my age, but I feel the need to have the physical product. I will buy music from bands on Bandcamp even if it is just a downloadable album. I like to support bands where I can.

For independants and for bands I really like, I buy the CD then stream on Spotify. So the bands get paid twice.

As do I. I don’t do Starbucks. Ten or twenty bucks a month here and there makes me happy knowing it’s helping younger musicians find an audience.

My daughter works in a drugstore. They have the sensors that beep when you walk out without paying and deactivating the RFI tag, but the staff are told not to do anything. There are cameras, but no security on site.
So it's basically the honor system

So it's basically the honor system

The little bit of work I have done in drugstores, every store had the same policy - if you get robbed (drugs) give them whatever they want and just get a good look at them. Call the police as soon as they are out of the store. Not worth dying for a few bottles of narcotics.

Stand By Your Man or Rawhide?

Stand By Your Man is a classic of classics IMHO cut pretty much live in the studio, the dynamics alone are unbelievable, those Nashville people could play.
I can do without Rawhide, to me that is an old TV show . I'm not a big country person, only like certain things, I like just about all rock & roll on the other hand.

I like to watch (Ahem!) but I don't have the time to follow anything closely.

I don't understand fans that say "we won" because, when I watch the games, the fans are never on the field. Seems to me that the totality of the accomplishments happen on the field, not in the stands.

I have even less understanding of soccer hooliganism (except for the one team in Poland that is a front for neo-nazis; I only know this is because the team is in my ex-wife's home town).

There was a band on the field once but they didn’t say they won.

Here in the Bay Area for a 'corporate' coffee shop, it's Peet's. (originally partners with Starbucks - but much better) There used to be a good chain called Tully's, but they're gone now. There's also (independent) Phil's here in the Mission (original location) a couple blocks away which has been around for a while. There's a few branches now. And many, many small coffee shops - everywhere.

? ***? I set off the thing every time I go into my CVS. We finally figured out it’s the parking card for my office in my wallet. But they are very much on top of their store.

LD is a big chain, but I guess they don't put a security guard in this store regularly. Apparently if the same person steals repeatedly, they detect it (presumably using facial recognition) and call the cops.

Those are much harder to grab and run with. It's mostly people taking a quick walk through the store, putting stuff in their coat and walking out. Also not worth dying over a thumb drive.

I was that way for a long time. But now give me Jamisons. Triple distilled and oh so smooth. No wonder the Irish are such big drinkers.

Seems like I recall Bushmills being smooth. Ireland's oldest distiller I think was the claim.

From what I recall, the Catholics drink Jameson and the Protestants drink Bushmills.
