What the heck would 5 wires do? Coil tap or just a sick bas-:poop: designer?

Yes, coil splitting. I split the coils in my Gilaxis with two Peavey pu's to achieve maximum variation in coil selection/combination.

I haven’t tried it yet. One of our club members and luthiers swears by it though. @Dadagoboi mat be able to chime in with specific “how to” info. I went the StewMac fretboard darkening route (basically India Ink) and had less than stellar results. It made only a minimal difference in the board darkness.

Fiebing's leather dye works great, no sanding just make sure board is CLEAN with rubbing alcohol and a white cloth.

Use multiple coats, at least three, 30 minutes or longer apart. Barely affects dots, I sharpie them for my personal taste and repeat sharpie when necessary.

Here's a pic from my 'Current Cataldo' thread. Top to Bottom, Fiebings on rosewood (pre sharpie), untreated rosewood, natural ebony.

Carletto! Cazzo fai?

Just received the donor bass from a recent eBay purchase, so now I can finish my layout and routing work for the ThunderCaster build. I’ll be using literally every part, component, nut and screw off the Fender Telecaster bass (except the body and pickguard) and installing it on the Tbird NR body to create the most thunderous thunderbird out there. The pup spacing on the NR body will be identical to the Fender as well as the Butterscotch Blonde finish, the new NR pickguard (shown rough sketched on a paper template) will be black and picks up some design ques from both the Fender and Tbird.

Should be a fun build! If successful, it’ll replace about the only Fender I play anymore with a more ergonomically comfortable body shape for me. If done in time I’ll bring it to the August GTG.

Note to those concerned: No Fender products will be harmed in this project. This is a relatively rare Fender bass, only made for one or two years and climbing in value. All components will remain intact and stock and returnable to the original body if necessary.

Good to see you, Carlo.

I'm looking at several Thunderbird models and in a lot of cases only see minor differences. I'm wondering if the differences are factory revisions or if they have been modified.
Is there a good resource that provides a description of the differences between each Thunderbird bass model?
just here alone …. 3 different styles, 4 different vintages….3 different manufacturers….

I like playing country, I mean the real stuff.....ducks.....

Not sure if this is considered 'real country', maybe pop country - but by a country artist.

Here's another by Ashley that I like - maybe TSC's will cover it someday -

I've found Sharpie black to have a blue tint. I've also used Eberhard/Higgins Eternal permanent black ink on new/clear grain wood.
