Ahem! But I’m serious. What is the safest ways to ream the holes?
Thanks. Ouch. It looks like standard size works for 3/8. But for 1/2 you would need to buy the large one. Gotta love StewMac.
Kara - thx for posting those! Never heard of them before but they make a lot of sense and solve my biggest gripe about most good tuners. I wonder how they compare to ultra lights in weight?
Those look good, they are too expensive for me though...
I assumed you were talking about other Epi tuners. One of the tuners on the white VP is a little rough feeling and has a little more resistance as you tune up. They are not a precise as what is on either newer Gibson, so not perfect, but OK for what they are and they do the job. I had an late 90s (I think that's right), Geddy Lee Jazz and those tuners were just crap and had the problems that several have voiced. I replaced those with the real Fender tuners from my white '78 Pbass. (I replaced all the hardware to the Gold that was used on the Elite Precisions.)I could have probably been more specific. The Eppi VP tuners are just fine, no issues. My complaint is with the run of the mill Eppi IV and Eppi Goth tuners. I’ve played a bunch, and own a few. Every single one of them had crap tuners to varying degrees. Sometimes just one of the four tuners is sloppy, sometimes it’s all four. The issue is entirely too much backlash in the gears (gear mesh gap tolerance is too big). It makes for very imprecise tuners. That said, every single one of the crap tuners still holds tune and does not slip. It’s just the slop and complete lack of precision when adjusting the tuner that I’m not fond of. They work, therefore won’t be replaced until they fail or until I decide to step on stage with them.
These are really the last decent videos of me playing from Mass in 2018 at a jam before the pandemic, I may have posted one of these here before. I used to fill in for the house bassist, the guitarist and vocalist were the featured guests this week and I was a fill in. I've played with all these guys in different bands although not together like this before. A couple of blues covers.
Fretless TF Precision
Said it doesn’t fit their sound. Sacrilege.![]()
Hers another one, a bit cheaper…Ahem! But I’m serious. What is the safest ways to ream the holes?
Nope![]()
You're makin' that up.
I've got to find a safe place right now. Everything I have believed is in question.Nope
I was looking at the Kluson banjo/bass tuners for my Explorer if I go headless. There's a guy on TB that built a headless EB and mounted those tuners behind the bridge. He says they work well.I always thought "Banjo" style tuners would be cool on a Thunderbird as was present on some Firebirds. They would likely would have been too large given the requirements for a bass tuner.
You sound like some kind of college boy...Looks like a problem for Sisyphos.*

Great picture, but please take the time to get the horizon level. It drives some people crazy.
