Thunderbird Club

As you say in yer sig. I've used mine for everything from concert band to big band to jazz to classic rock. I need no other bass. I have others that I use for particular situations, i.e., my Ibanez AGB200(poor man's EB-2) that is used for UB-y sounds, or my EB-0 that I use when we're especially space challenged-like this venue:View attachment 5077319 <to the left of the door is my JBL EON ONE PA, then me, my amp to my right, mic stand and music stand in front of me. Had I been using the 67NR, it woulda blocked access to the doorway. The drummer was backed up against the bar to take the pic. BTW, this place never went back to live music after the 'shutdown'.
Sound wise, I haven’t found a genre yet that a Gibson Tbird can’t fit into. Visually, yeah, there’s some music out there that I wouldn’t pick a thunderbird for as a first choice. Venue wise, there’s a lot of tight stages and rough neighborhoods and outdoor inclement weather situations that would cause me to look at other options. But the biggest limiting factor in my sound is ME.

Jazz smazz. You JBass people need to get a room.
LOL - I love thunderbirds, and also like pretty much everything humbucker equipped. I’ve given away and sold off most of my Jazz basses because I just don’t feel the love anymore for single coils. Just not my cup of tea anymore, but I do like to look at a pretty bass, and I do find the Jazz bass attractive, even more so in 3TSB or White and especially if it’s vintage (pre 1980’s).

I have taken my VP to a jazz jam and played Irish folk songs with it.
It is especially fun on Rock gigs with the gain cranked up, but size is a factor in my decision of what to bring. Tbirds love a big stage!

@JIO I wanna see more of that Jazz? Is it one of your vintage ones?

It's a replica of a '66 dot & bound Jazz bass consisting of an actual 1966 alder Fender J body that Marty Bell refinished in Olympic white. Pat Wilkins did the finishing on the maple neck with matching OW hs face, which was built to '62 J spec by Master Luthier Dan Ransom/SF (including Plek) with a fine Brazilian rosewood fb. Fender PV74 pu's, Electriks passive harness w/series parallel option (no longer made), Spitfire vintage spec pg, custom made '66 'Fender' oval tuners (long before Gotoh started making/selling them) and a bone nut which I cut. It's my Bond Girl bass - for 9 years now. I played a vintage '66 d&b J at the Chicago Music Exchange - and my bass sounds better. If anyone asks - it's a '66, more or less... but as a player - definitely more. :bassist:

And the setup is sweet.

Said it doesn’t fit their sound. Sacrilege. :rollno:

More look than sound, since both sound awesome. :bassist: See how diplomatic that is? I'm in the Rodney King camp... "why can't we all just get along?" :) (not joking)
