Thunderbird Club

I haven't, but am debating. Realistically I should just be saving to refinish the BaCH, which is likely what I'll do, but I'm watching it...

Not really, the exchange rate is a little different, and then there's shipping, but it's usually pretty cheap. That's where I picked up my Greco Rick basses, a Greco Strat, and some pedals. Very straightforward transactions.
I'm going to see if they ship to Canada at a reasonable rate. Probably won't go for this one (not a good time), but going to keep an eye on the site.

If it’s neck through, three knobs and an output jack on the side vs the front it’s an Epiphone CP, which is a very nice and sought after model by those that know thunderbirds. They typically cost a bit more than a standard Epiphone Tbird IV but they have Gibson pickups and other features that make them worth it. If it’s a reasonable price and within your budget, grab it quick, these things don’t last long on the used markets.

Fender didn’t make the Jazz I wanted, so as I’m prone to do, I said F..K it and made my own…

5 string with a solid rosewood neck, reverse P near Mudbucker territory, Stingray pup near P bass position, John East active preamp custom built to my spec with a three stack knob control layout of Vol/Blend, neck bass/treb/brite, bridge bass/treb/brite (voiced for a stingray) toggle for neck/both/bridge. Fun build, great player.

You got a great one! The VP (as it was originally called) is a phenomenal bass at its price point and even well above. That one will have a very vintage Gibson Tbird tone vs the modern Gibsons. More bite, grit and growl, but still plenty smooth if desired. It likes a lot of different strings and plays well with Cobalt Flats as well as Fender Nickel Rounds.

This might be the first VP that I’ve ever heard of with a claw that pulled out. It’s not a common thing at all on this model. The proper fix would be to glue and dowel the existing screw holes and redrill new ones. You might want to go with larger screws if you’re using an abnormally high tension string which would then also require larger dowels.

Guess there’s a first time for everything. IIRC didn’t Mikes Embassy do that as well? Just never seen it on a VP.
saw this strange J in Buenos Aires…..the logo was Fender but never seen the model…….counterfeit?….played and sounded pretty good…

Oh yeah, it's got to be, geofencing but usually VPN's solves that problem. I can't watch American TV out here with out it. If I post a video sometimes without my VPN on you guys can't see it.
There are VPNs with IP addresses from a data center and others that look like a residence. I need the latter for some connections when I’m in India.

I wasn't in the band when they named it, I never liked it. They started out playing Southern rock which was big during the late 70's I think that's where they got it. I was a hard rocker and joined it because my guitar playing buddy asked to join. I wasn't crazy about the whole thing at first but they turned out to be good musicians and had some good originals so I eventually liked it.

This is live from 1980, a board recording into a 4 track reel to reel. The singer/writer was from Tennessee. This was also a fretless P bass through an SVT, miced. Charlie was a good singer.....I wasn't at least playing a fretless bass at the same time. Yeehah!

Reminds me of The Outlaws a little. They were big(ish) back then.

...We also do "Peter Gunn Theme" that morphs into "Planet Claire". How could you not dance to that!
Easy if you're me. Me "dancing" is something you never want to see. In fact, they don't even call it dancing when try. A man's gotta know his limitations. I will groove a little while playing bass, but that's it.

I think it's a Fender Modern Player Jazz, they only made them for a few years, maybe ten years ago.

Yep - authentic Fender product. They've been doing a number of hybrid models the last number of your years. Smart move for Fender.

Epiphone Thunderbird E1 :
I could have sworn I saw an Epi page on this. All the retailers seem to have these listed and at least some have them in stock, but I can't find an Epi page for one. Not sure why they ditched the CP and brought this one back, but OK. I think there's room for both, but it's not my company so whatever.
Meanwhile Sweetwater, on their E1 page, said, "Nearly four decades ago, the Thunderbird bass design was introduced by Gibson." I sent them a correction. 8^)
Gibson. 'Nuff said.

Yeah, It was that kind of stuff, we opened for Molly Hatchet a few Times. We did some countryish original stuff too, I liked this one. This was 1980-82.

Nice!

One of the best concerts I ever saw was Molly Hatchet in '78(?). No flash, just kicked musical butt. Wet Willy opened from them and were outstanding. Paid $1.02 for the ticket. Local radio station WLRS, 102 promo. MH started out with one of Skynyrd's old producers and later changed to a guy Uncle Ted used. Their sound became kind of thin after that.
