If it was flat black it was a goth.
The price is too low to be a VP or a CP so it’s not one of those.
If it was a brown burst it was most likely a IV.
If it had a prominent multi laminate neck through design it was a Pro.

in looking up "epiphone thunderbird bass IV", all the results lead to the Epiphone Thunderbird E1. are they the same bass, did the E1 replace the IV or ???

I believe they are the same - with production variations depending on when/where they were made.

That brings up a few very curious phrases commonly used ; "that cheesecake is to die for!" - Really? You'd die for cheesecake?? ... "that band killed!" - And still at large? ... "I could have killed little Johnny for doing that" - you would murder your own son?

The E1 appears to be the IV brought back to life , except that it’s not on the Epi web site and Gibson support doesn’t have a clue if it’s in production. If you want a new one, buy so to be safe.
