Again.., my point was not a slight on Epiphone - at all. No comparative 'value' judgement intended. I own a Gibson, I own an Epiphone - both fine products in their own right. Here's an analogy; let's say Gibson offers a John Lennon tribute E230TD Casino with Gibson on the hs. If this were true, I would be curious as to why they would choose to do that considering the tribute in question was in fact an Epiphone. The Epiphone T-bird in question is not a tribute due to a famous player, but it is celebrating the first version of this bass badged Gibson.

Covers and folded brass plate/felt pads string mute ;) (and large barrel/post reverse tuners... but I digress) No, I get it - it will be super cool regardless of such minor details. :bassist:

I am hoping some reviews start rolling through soonish. I'd especially like to see/hear a comparison to the outgoing Classic Pro.

@Dadagoboi - have you decided your response to the rosewood issue for exported items?
Get the certification ? Or would you just use an alternative wood for fretboards?
Or maybe it's not that much of an issue?

Edit : just curious on your take on it.

Those of us about to pull the trigger on an NRBird would love to know...

And also to know what are the alternatives.

I suspect the highly figured maple on that Hamm back is thin veneer. Unlike the massive slab Gibson used on this bass...

There's enough flame maple in the Gibby cap to veneer 30 basses.

Except it's not book matched, wouldn't pass muster for a vintage Les Paul.

Quilt is flame squared, or cubed, and it's price reflects that. Sure the Washburn is plywood but there's a lot more labor and maybe $400 less in materials cost than a solid body, unbound, bolt on, $3500, Fender clone Spector.

This is one piece solid flame maple, I paid the same price for it as a run of the mill alder two piece blank.

As far as Gibson or Epi doing anything right in the future, it has to do with your perception of what 'right' is. There won't be any 959s coming down the pike, if you catch my drift.

Ebony. I'm trying not to get upset about stuff I have no control over.

Something else that has worked well for me on GC used gear. I talked to the local store manager after buying a few used items on line and told him to give me a call if he ever got any boutique, limited or vintage guitar bass or amp and cabs in. That resulted in him calling me first (before they even listed it on their website) to see if I wanted it. I picked up phenomenal deals on an Alembic bass, a Fender Paisley Tele reissue, a vintage Musicman Hybrid amp and a Pre EB Stingray among other things. I'd easily estimate about $7000 in savings over what I would have paid on eBay for those same items. It was a win win for them as well since they didn't have to take time to take photos, write a listing, make room for it on the showroom floor and end up having to ship it to another store or a buyers address only to have the buyer return it to a local store resulting in fund transfers from store to store.

Here's a '78 Stingray and '80 HD150 SS/Tube amp I got for about a thousand less than the two would have cost me on eBay...

Good scores! I have had my eye out for a Pink Paisley MIJ P Bass for a few years now, but haven't seen one in Oz at a reasonable price for years. There has been a Blue Floral getting around but it is too expensive- dreamer.
I actually love single coil P Basses better than split coils. I have a 56 P, a 69 Telecaster Bass and a Sting Bass- love them all.

I'm completely with you on the single coil vs split coil! Both of these play fantastic and end up as quite the conversation pieces when gigged...

Now all I need is a vintage 810 cab with a tie dye cloth grill. :smug:

It's times like this that I need to be able to press "like" multiple times.
You might enjoy my "small headstock P Basses". I have a few with the big headstock as well.

All very very nice, especially the one on the far left! Do you use mute pads in any of your bridge covers?
A piece of foam under the cover is one of the reasons I like covers on everything so much. It's just one more way to get the bass, any bass, to make another sound. For what it's worth, I'll be giving a hunk of foam off my bit ol' roll to a guitarist who is having a tough time with palm muting for some reason. Stuffing a mute in a Strat has a poetic quality to it, especially when that Strat is usually way too loud.

The one on the far left as you look at the pic is a Squier actually. The one on the far left as they look at you is a Fender Cabronita- I am toying with the idea of it getting a Chinabucker or a TV Jones Thundersomething pickup- the Fender TV Jones knock off is a poor pickup in my opinion. The bass is beautiful but it sounds nasal and rubbish.
The foam mutes have shrunk on the three vintage ones- the 56P, 69 Tele and the 73 Tele and I am happy that it is out of the way of the strings.
