So I've been playing in the BaCH Bird for a couple weeks now, and today it's neen Ol' Blu, Rex and BaCHy and I have to say off all my basses BaCHy is absolutely freaking LOUD!!! I haven't a clue what these strings are but they are clanky round wonders. Every ball end is gold and there are no silks. Definitely not Daddario's and deffinatly rounds.

I don't know. And this being dry stuff is making for some odd behavior.

No idea. The only EB's i've used are Cobalt Flats and they have pirple silk.

Many strings fit that description, slinkys, many DR, elixir (though if you look carefully you can see the coatings). If the core is exposed at the tuners end then they are not EB or DR, could be markley NPS round core if so.

Many times it is a mystery when there are no silks.

Very true, could be of several brands. They arent terrible but could be netter. I might try some EB as a dig their Cobalt Flats so the slinkies might be cool on there. Or the Daddario NY's or I might even already have a set of Nickel wounds in the closet. Have to check!

FYI: I played my first gig using my new-to-me Thunderbird and Orange OB-1 500 last night. So much fun! Still have to get the muscle memory developed for the string spacing, a bit different than my jazz bass. Tone was awesome, the bass never felt heavy during the set and the neck was breeze to get around on

Another unexpected perk was that there are no sharp edges to (like on a jazz pick-up) to catch your fingers on whilst doing windmills! No cuts or bruises was nice.

After the set I was at the bar getting a water and an audience member started yelling "Hey, bass player! I am buying you a beer!". Then had another person tell me that the bass playing and tone reminded him of JAE & Mike Watt....

High praise for sure. I think we all know that the credit goes to the Thunderbird.....

I am planning on ordering a custom set of steel Slinky's and SIT powersteels and try them on the birds, and reorder the one I like better, hopefully the SIT because they cost less. There are no steel sets that are close to the guage I need, power slinky .110 is too light for the C, and the .115 heavy boomers are a little tight on the .095, and only come in nickel. I have been meaning to get this order placed, hopefully before some other strings on special sell out.

I put D'addario pro steels, heavy gauge on my Gibby. Was sold to me with chomes, but the flats are just too dead for it.

When I was 12 or 13 and knew nothing about bass other than an idea I wanted to play one, the EB3 was that bass.

For me it was the Hofner violin bass ala Paul McCartney. Later the EB3 after seeing Dennis Dunnaway on the back of the Love It To Death album, where Michael Bruce and Glen Buxton also had SG's.

Well, having been "out of it" for quite some time, I keep seeing references to playing flats here and on other threads on TB. I am wondering what the attraction is? I always thought of them as "less than" virtually any round wound string unless you were trying to emulate an upright. T
Though I feel like I may be prying open a can of worms (personal preference and all of that) what would be the attraction? Couldn't you just turn your tone knob down and get 99% of the flat experience?
