I always check by ear after using the tuner & fine-tune if necessary, although my BOSS TU-2 has never failed me.

Must be an intonation issue, as you said. Would be good for him (and the band) to know what it was to avoid it again. Hopefully it was a weird one off kind of thing.

I've had guitarists tune up, but play some chords and it sounds off.

But today if everyone can have "their own truth," then everyone ought to be able to have "their own in tune" thing going on! Have one person tune to an LP and everyone tune to them at the gig. That'll solve it!

Cool! Somewhat related, I'm pretty excited because tomorrow morning our 16 TSC's pro-recorded songs will be mastered. I'll start the session with him to establish LP/CD order and priorities and he'll take it from there. I'm happy with the way they sound now, so am looking forward to be blown away once it gets mastered!

I actually played this weekend. Bluegrass on the upright again. This seems to be turning into a habit. It was unamplified, which means really digging into the strings. It's fun, though. Plus, no electric cords, no blown fuses, no cord problems, no wireless problems. And, when I hit a clam, it wasn't quite as loud and obnoxious.

I would agree with this assessment. Telebird first with the Pbass being a close second. I found the Telecaster bass too thin sounding for my taste, but it didn't sound bad at all.
