My Epi T-Bird Classic. Came stock with Gibson pickups and electronics. I added the Hipshot Bridge, the Hipshot Ultralight mini-clover tuners, I had the luthier drill the body for "string through". Oh, and the knobs go to 11.

Agreed on the stigmas. I didn’t play a lot of the basses but I was intently listening to almost all of them. The one that I briefly played that really struck me as having something extra special was the store owners Jazz mash up. The body and neck were different years of 1960’s offerings, the bridge pup was a 1974 and the neck pup was a 1968? , the body was even an old refin. The thing is, it all came together great as a fantastic player.

I was determined to play every bass anyone brought, party in appreciation of their bring the basses, partly because I might not ever get to play one otherwise, and partly just because. Pure bliss.

For everyone comparing their playing to others, I'll give an analogy from running. Run your own race. I consider myself competent and that's fine with me. There are lots of much better players; hooray for them. I'm in a band I love and my playing is good enough for that.

That was the difference this year at the GTG vs last year at V’s. This year, I had the same attitude I do on my bike. I’m not out to race or to beat anyone else. Sure, I try to keep up with people on rides, but if they have to slow down (no drop rides), or I have to bring up the rear well behind everyone else, so be it. Mostly, I just go ride. It’s not an exact analogy, more about attitude. So when I said I was probably the least accomplished bassist in the group, it was simply an observation, made as objectively as possible, and didn’t bother me in the least. It’s just weird to hear people say something similar when they can do stuff on bass I can’t.

Recently my guitarist friend said while I played unplugged that the tone is already there no matter which bass I play or what amp or what pedals. Luckily he likes my tone! And on a good day I like it too.
I've played since 1989 and while I have to do other part time things to make ends meet I consider playing bass my number one job "or the real job". I have acquired enough skills to play in quite a few different styles and I'm also the first one to say if I feel I'm not the right player to certain situation. I also think that my style and sound comes through whatever gig it is I'm doing. Whether I like it or not.

Yes, it does, but less of a scream and more of a low seductive whisper! Dave's '66 P had more than a little player wear on it, just not as much as mine - but the feel and sound/tone was very familiar. I've played some mostly newer P's - they sound good, but different. Both '66s sound warm and woody - that P-bass sound so ingrained into recording history.

Played it at the moment Dave started playing drums resulting in a "maintain low tones" bass-odyssey.
